In these two photos, two Mattel fashion doll dancers drape chairs. Behold, Cabaret Dancer Barbie and Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre Barbie.
Maud asserts her ability to stretch like action figures can.
Judith curls her back against her chair and curls her legs up to reveal the elegance of her arched feet.
Bibora has her eyes on these girls. LOL.
ReplyDeleteMaud and Judith acknowledge that their superior articulation would interest someone like Bibora, but they decline any opportunity to enrich Bibora's accounts. Something about dangerous and negative side effects ... ;-D
ReplyDeleteI love the articulation of these girls.
ReplyDeleteI like the improved articulation of these dolls AND how attractive the joints are. Bye bye old hinged knees. It's like Mattel noticed the cleaner, prettier joints of R & D's Susie and Integrity's Fashion Royalty dolls.
ReplyDeleteMy only quibble is that the dancers are sooo thin. But I can imagine thin dancers.
After seening your post, I found a Alvin Alley on sale( Big Lots). I notice one leg will bend but not move. Should it do this? Is there something I can do so that both legs will move (hot water?) She can really sit the way she is now.

Hi Leonaamon!
ReplyDeleteYour AAADT Barbie's knees should bend. But it does not move ... to paraphrase, the leg bends but cannot unbend? Can you let me know more about the frozen part?
Both knees bend but only one leg moves. The other leg seem fixed in place. It will not move allowing her to sit on a table or in a chair. Like that one leg is fixed in the six o'clock position while the other is able to move. I wasn't sure if all dolls came that way and something needs to be done to make both legs fully move.

Thanks for the clock analogy, LC. I understand the problem now: the leg-hip area is frozen/locked on one leg. Her knees bend, but both legs will not "rise" from the six o'clock standing position to allow the doll to sit.
ReplyDeleteTsk. Something is wrong with that doll. The Pivotal Body allows these dolls to sit. Sitting is a basic doll activity ... most dolls can sit. The pin-connector that joins the leg to the hip has been frozen on older dolls ... from disuse or because the plastic on the upper leg has melted into the hip area. But this should not happen with a new doll.
I'll check among other collectors to find out if there is a remedy for this problem. When I have encountered frozen/locked limbs like legs or arms, I tried to "force" movement, the connector device broke and the limb came off.
Or you could ask Big Lots for a replacement doll.
Aside: most of the Jakks Pacific G.I.R.L. Force dolls cannot sit. Kulture Shock Jaz is the only exception that I have.
Thanks for your help. I used a blow dryer on the leg for about a half hour and it finally losen and is now working. She can sit now!!!!
