Updated PhillyCollector Header

Hi! I have finally updated my blog header to include a photograph. Yay! And I am pleased with the photo and the new color and font of the header text. Where the header just used to have "A PhillyCollector of Playscale Dolls and Action Figures" in white text, I now have a background photo showing seven heads in a circle - starting from almost 12:00 with Mixis Emerald, moving to 2:00 with Mattel Flavas Tika, next Aoshima/Skynet Mai at 3:00, next Integrity Toys' Dynamite Girl T.J., next G-Five Vanessa at 6:00, then R&D Dolls Susie at 8:00, next Takara CyGirl Ice who precedes Mixis Emerald. On top of the doll and action figure circle, orange text reads "A PhillyCollector of Playscale Dolls and Action Figures," which text partially obscures the heads of the upper half of the circle. I would have preferred the text to fit OVER the photo, but alas, there wasn't an option for that using the layout I have. Shrug.

Anyway, I am pleased with it. Hugged myself for a minute, lol. Maybe now I can upload some of my stuff onto Pinterest. Grinning me.

Okay, any comments or criticism or suggestions welcome as usual.

  2. Love the new photograph header with the doll heads (and thanks for the identification of each doll). My only comment would be the orange colour of your heading is hard to read when it crosses over the lighter areas like the dolls' skin - which probably also has as much to do with my eyes as with the colour choice.

  5. Thanks, Carrickters and Verona!

@ Carrickters - you are welcome to the identification of the dolls/action figures. I did wonder about the orange hitting their faces - it slightly bothered me, too. I'd like to see if I can fix it so that the text does not run over the faces.

@ Verona - thanks. when it feels right for you, you'll work on your header. I didn't need to when I first started, but we make adjustments as we grow into our blogs. Even me, lol ;-D

  7. I love the variety of dolls and agree with Carrickters' comment on the orange colour of the heading.

Great idea to have them placed in a circle.

  8. It looks great D7ana! I really like the dolls chosen for your header. They are not dolls that are commonly seen. Thanks for identifying them. I really like the doll at 6:00 : ). I have never seen her before. You have inspired me to "want" to add a header. I am so new at this and am afraid that I might mess something up by changing it. Maybe one day I'll get the courage...

    Happy Saturday!

  9. Hi Dollz4Moi, Allenoel, and Georgia Girl! I have seen dolls in a circle previously. I might change the header text back to white for clearer contrast. I tried to use models that are seen less often: the doll at 6:00 is Vanessa from the Get Set or Get Set series aka The G-Five doll series.

Good luck with your new headers. I'll see if I can find a tutorial - so I can possibly adjust the text/photo.

  10. Congratulations on the new look! It accurately shows the range of your collection and the depth of your knowledge about 1:6 scale dolls and action figures.

  11. I have Vanessa from the Get Set series. I immediately recognized her. She's not the prettiest doll, but I think that is what attracted me to her.

I was going to suggest another text color, but I decided I would just compliment you on your photo choice. It would be nice to see the text in a clearly readable color as others have suggested.

  12. Thanks, LimbeDolls and DBG! I did choose dolls that were less readily recognized. Vanessa from the Get Set series appears here as the only doll from Philadelphia, and because she is un-glamorous, homely even. Although I think her hair and her complexion are pretty ...

The text color is now red. It provides the best contrast and intensity of color for now. A darker peach would fit the denim blue colors and the peach accents, but it blends too easily with the different doll face complexions. Both white and black text lack the distinction of the red text. I think I will need to adjust where the text falls across the photo to make the best arrangement.

I appreciate ALL of the feedback I received. You have helped me make this update.

  18. Thanks, Robin! Glad you enjoy the photo, too. I adjusted the photo so we can now see Ice and Mai. Might need to redo the photo to provide clear space for Emerald and Kiyoni. Shrug.
