Must See Holiday Display at The PNC Bank Tower

Okay, you’ve watched the television holiday specials. You have seen the Nutcracker. You’ve experienced the ChristmasVillage. The kids have seen Santa. What can you do next? Take in these lovely shop facades being shown at the PNC Bank Tower* located at 1600 Market Street. The display is by Hoffman Design Group, Inc. This post is for anyone visiting the Center City Philadelphia area during the holiday season OR for those unable to stop there. Why? Because the shop facades seem playscale size - and they look festive enough to inspire carolling.

Any diorama ideas triggered? Well, I hope they provide enjoyment and inspiration to you.

Happy Holidays!

*aka The Darth Vader Building ... in my view.

  1. Tis the season and ho ho ho! Whenever I see things like this I want to pick them up and turn them over and inspect them thoroughly. But no touching is allowed. :(

  2. They are wonderful! Thanks for sharing them. I've always wanted to create a street view of shops and houses, but I'm not motivated enough to make it happen.

  3. It’s charming. I couldn’t find any other photos online, so love that you have provided so many for us. I used to adore Kaufmann's (now Macy’s) Christmas windows - they had similarly precious sets that were worthy of hours of standing in the cold to gaze at.

  5. Hi Muff, Vanessa, Robin, and Marta!

You are welcome. Glad you enjoyed seeing the shops. The neat thing is that they are placed so that you can see them outside OR inside. (And I took the photos inside, lol.)

I wanted to place my dolls in the set, but the guards said that I could NOT do that. At first, I was disappointed; then I realized it would be annoying for them and other viewers to have someone puttering around the display. Sigh. Still ... glad to be able to share the photos with you all.

Oh and while I feel inspired, I doubt that I will recreate the entire scene. I will leave the more elaborate settings to others.

  6. I love it! I would love to gather up some of the more prominent residents of Moreville and place them in those shops. It would be so much fun to play in those for hours! Thanks so much for sharing them. Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful Holiday Season!

  7. Thanks for sharing this magical scene. You can still place your dolls in the set. Take a picture of your doll posed in front of a piece of green posterboard. Use an image editing program to remove the green background and then paste your doll into the scene. You can do this in Gimp which is available as a free download.

  8. Hi Cindi and Limbe Dolls!

@Cindi - glad you enjoy the photos. Could you leave me a link to Moreville? I'm not sure I have it. Hate to think of what I am missing ;-P

@LimbeDolls - oh, THANKS! I recall hearing something about a "green screen," but I didn't connect the concept with dolls until you mentioned it. Presto change-o - photo improvement instantly, lol.

And I love learning computer applications so Gimp will be fun to investigate. Thanks, P!

  9. Very cute and thanks for taking all those photos for people who can't get there. It's great that they are set up so you can take photos inside and outside - the only shop that does this kind of thing in Melbourne has it set up in the shop windows so you can only see it from outside.
