I am seeking a new online photo album site that I can use to replace my lost Webshots Albums. I have considered and discounted Flickr, Photobucket, and Picasa. Flickr would create a new bill for expanded services because they limit the photos. Plus I already have photos there. Photobucket seems to require the viewers to have an account there. (Annoying, that.) Picasa is full of my blog photos; I do not want to overload that account. So, I am open to new online photo sites.
Or perhaps I should create a blog with just photos? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I didn't realize that Photobucket images could only be viewed by those who held Photobucket accounts.
ReplyDeleteI have used Shutterfly.com just for image storage. You would not be able to use images stored there on your blog.
dbg
Picasa is the only one I'm using so I cant be any help at all. :(
ReplyDeleteGreat post D7ana. I am also seeking a place. I lost my webshots as well. I hope someone comes up with a place to store them.
ReplyDeleteWhat about dropbox.com????
ReplyDeleteI don't know if thedollpage.com/photopost could be of any help to you?
ReplyDeleteYou could try Shutter fly. A friend of mine uses it for her photos and seems to like it. Only thing is, you would have to give us all access to your account with a password I think. Another option would be Facebook. There you could create an account just for your photos and make them visible to everyone i.e. "public" access. :-)
ReplyDeleteTricky one... I can't think of a single "good" solution, sorry. If you find one would you please let us know. Thanks, D, and good luck.
ReplyDeleteHi and thanks, DBG, Muff, Vicki, The Duke of Swann, IHime, Cindi, and Ro!
ReplyDelete@DBG - sometimes it seems that I have to be logged into Photobucket in order to see the photos. Sigh. I don't know if I am doing something odd though so maybe it's just my experience ;-)
@Muff - thanks for mentioning Picassa. It is interesting to hear what others are using.
@Vicki - glad that this post will help you, too. Boy do I miss that site. Poof.
@The Duke of Swann - I have to look into Dropbox. Do you know if they have a fee? I have heard that mentioned ... but now I have a reason to investigate it. Thanks ;-D
@IHime - The DollPage ... hmm ... I usually just post for sale stuff there. Worthy of investigation. Thanks ;-D
@Cindi - thanks for the Shutterfly referral, but I would rather skip password use. Easy to forget the password and for people with limited online time, that would factor in. Facebook album made public ... hmmm ... good one. I'll add that to the list of possible sites.
@Ro - I'll give feedback so that anyone wanting that information can have a perspective on photo sites.
It's been great to have your sympathy, empathy, and suggestions.
I just have Photobucket & flickr (pro account). Photobucket is easy for me to use. I can use them to post my pics everywhere. Flickr is the same but like you said if you don't have a pro account then I think you're limited to 200-250 pics there.
ReplyDeleteIf I hear of anywhere I'll let you know
Thanks, Anika, for these suggestions. I only have basic Flickr and basic Photobucket. Perhaps I should look Photobucket again ;-D
ReplyDeleteWow, I was sorry to hear Webshots vanished like that! It's terrible when that happens.
ReplyDeleteI tried a couple other places before I found flickr, (photobucket, and a few others I forget the name of) but for me, nothing even came close to flickr. It's definitely worth the yearly fee. Aside from being the most popular one, the doll community there is enormous. All the other hosting sites seem really clunky to me by comparison, and like you said, there seem to be a lot of issues with passwords.
But since you don't want to pay an annual fee (which I totally get) just starting another blog for photos seems like a good solution for what you're trying to do. Free, customizable, and easy to interact thru.
Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you.
Hi SmidgeGirl! Groan, Webshots. Groan. I like Flickr, but I'd rather bypass paying for extra space there. (Save those funds for DAFs.) Photobucket, I like a little less, but I do have stuff there.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I miss about Webshots - aside from that having MANY of my photos - is that the doll community was not as big. I stood out, lol. Eh, but that was then.
I am considering an extra blog. But I like the idea of a photo specific site.
Thanks for your suggestions and the luck wish.
