Books in Baggage - A Moving Post

Okay, I have doll books to pack. How should I do it?

Small-to-medium boxes, you might suggest.

What about something different? I've tucked some of my doll books away in a carry on luggage case. Yes, it's heavy, but I like being able to move a batch of books with one hand and a push.

There is no padding at the bottom of the case. I just added books and books.

I've managed to add some shorter, paperback books to the side.

To fill in the empty gap between the case top and the last book, I added two empty Mattel Barbie Fashion Fever tubes and stuffed a mosquito net to the side. Ta da! Book bounce reduction.

Now to zip close the case.

Neat, huh?

  1. You are coming up with all of these clever moving ideas. I missed that you were moving. I thought you were just rearranging!

  2. Unpacking should be a breeze for you since you are organizing your move so well. I have so many books. Just the thought of moving them gives me a headache.

  3. Glad that you were able to pack your treasured doll books in an easy to remember container. I packed up 27 boxes of books before I went to Senegal. I stored them in a friend's basement while I was gone but he decided to sell his house this spring so I had to get a storage unit. I decided to winnow them and got down to 9 boxes. I wish I were young enough that all my books were on a Kindle or some other eBook reader. I don't envy you having to move.

  4. Hi The grandmommy, Georgia Girl, and Limbe Dolls

@The grandmommy - at first, I was organizing, then the move followed ;-)

    @Georgia Girl - I hope so ;-)

@Limbe Dolls - I still have other doll/action figure books and other books and magazines. Congratulations on winnowing your collection down to 9 boxes. I read a lot online, but I prefer a book-in-hand to a device.

@All - thanks for your sympathy regarding the move itself.

  5. Hi D7ana, moving is such a huge task....last time I did it 5 years ago....I can't even think about it without a shudder....well I think that this idea of carrying books in a suitcase is excellent!

  6. Books get heavy really fast, so I would use smaller, heavier boxes or sturdy plastic containers with hand holds. How far are you moving? I have moved a lot in my life, and I absolutely hate it, so I don't envy you. You are very well organized so that will make your move go a lot more smoothly.

  7. Hi Billa's dolls and fashions and Phyllis!

@billa's dolls and fashions - one set of movers were simply darling; they safely moved my delicate Detolf glass shelving unit. The other crew broke a boxed unit. Shudder time indeed.

@Phyllis - yes they do - books getting heavy. Sigh. I've also got some small cardboard boxes. I'm staying in the city so it's not as big a move as it could have been. I'll be glad when I'm settled - oh and the cat, too.

  8. That's a great idea!

Although I wouldn't want to have to lift a suitcase of books very high - that must get heavy!

  10. You are being very creative with your move. I have to admit reading your moving posts gives me a little bit of anxiety because just the thought of me ever having to pack up my stuff and move is quite frightening.

  11. Hi jSarie, All4Barbie, and Vanessa! Glad the idea interested you.

@jSarie - Oh, now suitcases I would fill with clothes, sheets and quilts, and padded doll furniture. The piece I'm using is smaller ;-)

@Marta - Glad to inspire. Yes, let's keep in touch ;-)

@Vanessa - Oh yes, moving is tiring ;-P I hope you don't have to unless you want to ;-)

  12. I must admit, I never liked moving! I always seem to lose something and it bothers me. It looks like you are more organized than I am. That shouldn't happen to you..
