Wow. Lot of stuff happening in May. But more than these annual favorites is one event that trumps them all (except Mother's Day; nothing trumps that):
I'm moving.
Pause to cover my ears and scream. Cover my ears to protect them. Scream because I'm excited and frustrated. I'll have to schedule posts around packing and selling. I will do better to sell some things and that means figuring out the best way to do so. Sigh. So much to do.
What I probably will not be doing is a lot of shopping. Sigh. But I saw these Chelsea friend cuties at Walmart so I'm sharing them now.
Anyone have packing tips to share? I thank you in advance for sharing them. Links welcome, too ;-)
Hey D7ana. The package store has boxes that wine comes in. The boxes contains several slots to hold bottles are perfect for loose dolls.
ReplyDeleteHi D7ana, I can understand your feeling, I moved 4 years ago, and it is a great but awful thing....
ReplyDeleteThe one piece of advice I feel to share is: number the boxes and prepare a list of what is inside each of them....
Kisses Billa
Hi Georgia Girl and Billa's dolls and fashions!
ReplyDelete@Georgia Girl - thanks! I like that idea.
@Billa's dolls and fashions - thanks! My last move was almost 9 years ago. I'll have boxes, IKEA bags, plastic bins, and some cloth underbed storage bags. Lists stating what's inside each unit will help reduce stress.
My number one tip is depending on how much time you have start packing up the items that aren't necessary. Mark the boxes so you know where it goes when you do move. The inventory is handy so you know that the dishes are inside kitchen box #4 :O)
ReplyDeleteDepending on the time you have try to sell & donate the things you will not miss. This will lighten your move and save you time.
I use tissue paper under and in between my loose dolls in containers. I have too many to use the wine box idea. I have also used bubble wrap under the bottom layer and top of dolls
I feel your pain D7ana. My last move was 5 years ago when I moved from Colorado to Georgia. I went room by room, packed stuff up then labelled the boxes by room is living room, master bedroom etc. That made it easier for me when I got here. Are you staying in Philly or moving elsewhere? Glad you liked Arty's story. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have moved a few times, but it has been 10 years since my last move. Now is a good time to purge! Get rid or or donate anything you will not be using in you new location. Also, I wrapped dolls in towels and also layered towels between layers of dolls and put the dolls in plastic bins. This way, I packed dolls and towels at the same time! Also, get rid of containers with small amounts of liquid or chemicals in them. I had stupid movers the last time and they helped with packing. They threw in partially opened bottles (which I told them not to pack) in with some of my clothing and my clothing was ruined! Good luck moving! It is one of the hardest things to do!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on moving! I wish I had any packing advice, but unfortunately I'm the least organised person in the world. Those Chelsea friends are adorable, though. There's one dressed up as a fox that I'm getting as soon as priced drop.
ReplyDeleteWow, moving is a big deal! Best wishes for a good experience. As far as packing tips, I would agree with Dollz4Moi to start packing up stuff early. And absolutely as much as possible. I have a bad habit of thinking I might suddenly start a project with those knitting needles a week before we move, so I'd better not pack them yet. That sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on moving! I get stressed out at the mere thought. It's been 11 years since I last moved, and I didn't have many dolls and action figures then (probably less than 50). So I don't have any good packing advice. I'm wishing you the best!
ReplyDeleteLooking at your May topics, I'm wondering: have any manufacturers made Haitian dolls?
I move every couple of years - the next one will be at the end of this month. It's always a little crazy-making, but usually fun too, so I hope your move will be as well.
ReplyDeleteI think the #1 rule is to decide what items you absolutely don't want to see broken and focus on taking care of them. And also to make sure that your movers are insured!
Hi Dollz4Moi, Cindi Mortensen, Phyllis, Anderson's All-Purpose, Barb the Evil Genius, RoxanneRoxanne, and jSarie! Thanks for the positive wishes and advice. I'd wanted to do elaborate posts on organizing, etc. I'll need to go smaller scale and start selling soon. Breathe in, breathe out.
ReplyDeleteOops
ReplyDelete1. Yes, I'm staying in Philly.
2. I have to leave packed stuff packed. Sigh ... so hard, that ;-(
3. I go back between stuff I want to sell and packing stuff I want to keep ;-P
4. Aha! I found a Haitian American doll. Well, actually, Male Doll World has one ;-)
I hope this is a happy move! I used to move every 5 years but I've been in my current place for 15 years now.
ReplyDeleteI would say that if your fridge is up and running at the new place fill it with food first before the move. Especially some fruits and chilled drinks and ice cream. You might want a pizza after the move, but you are going to be hot and tired and it takes 40+ minutes for the pizza to arrive and something cool will hit the spot immediately. Get some popsicle sticks too!
Congrats! I did gasp when I read that you were moving. Oh the mere thought of moving makes me tremble. I don't have any wonderful tips. If you had the luxury of taking your time, I would say move one or two rooms at a time to the new place. That way at least all the stuff would be in the right place. I still can't find things that I need when I moved the doll room from the family room to the basement. Crazy. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou forgot National Comic Book Day and National Star Wars Day.
ReplyDeleteHi Muff, Vanessa, and SkipperCollector!
ReplyDelete@Muff - overall, it's a good move. I'll miss the space here and the location, but some things had gone sour. Shrug.
I like the idea of stocking the fridge with pizza, chilled drinks, and ice creamy things - oh, cheesecake gelato is calling my name. And there's this new Philly brand ice cream by Dre that has a sweet potato pie flavor ... sigh.
@Vanessa - thanks for the room-by-room suggestion. If I can, I'm going to try that. Hope your neat stuff re-appears where it should when it should ;-)
@SkipperCollector - ack! So I did. Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to look those dates up ;-)
Good luck to you. I'll likely be moving sometime soon as well. I'm purging, even some things I never thought I'd sell. It's amazing how much room even teeny tiny doll stuff tales up.
ReplyDeleteHi MissSpottyJane! I wish you luck with your move, too.
ReplyDeleteYay for purging - sell/trade/give as you can. I have to bring myself to do it. Yes, you never know what will go and what stays. Never thought I'd have sold ALL my Petworks Momokos, but I did.
Yes, the teeny stuff needs packaging and protecting and it all adds up and across, lol.
Oh and I forgot to include the link for the sweet potato pie ice cream.
Hello dear!
ReplyDeleteIn USA everything is sheap, here is all pricy hahaha is not fair :)
Hugs!
Next week we got more girls coming on in photoshoots :*
Congrats and good luck with the move.
ReplyDeleteHi Diego Maurício and Chasing Joy!
ReplyDelete@Diego Maurício - well, many things are cheap here, lol. Sigh.
I look forward to your next photoshoot. Hugs back ;-)
@Chasing Joy - thanks! I'll need it ;-)
WOW! Moving...I hope you will still be in the area. I am always interested to see what events the month will bring.
ReplyDeleteHi Ms. Leo! Yes, I'll still be in Philly. Glad that the month's events interest you - now if I get them addressed, that'll be great, lol ;-)
