DC Comics, Alert Reader, and Comic Book Dolls

PhillyCollector: Guess who has added a Wonder Woman doll to her Wish List? Me.

Surprised? So am I. First, I was a "Make Mine Marvel" kid. I did not follow DC characters. Superman bored me ...

Alert Reader pops up: Wait a minute, I saw a Superman Ken sometime ago here ...

PhillyCollector: Yes, you did. Back in 2009. He is still here. Hey, Super Ken ...

Mattel Superman Ken: Me, boring?

Alert Reader: So you do collect DC Comics dolls. You mentioned the Mattel Batgirl on her Batcycle in a previous post.

PhillyCollector: Whoa - Batman is different. Batman is classic cool - a human who uses his wits, his wealth, and his unquenchable lust for vengeance to fight criminals. Batman is deep, complex. You can not talk Batman and Superman in the same discussion. Sure, he is more moody than my favorite Spider-Man, but Batman has NO super powers so he's bound to get aches that Spidey and Superman don't.

Besides, who doesn't LOVE the campy American television show? Let's sing the theme -

Alert Reader: Let's NOT. Sing. Ever.

PhillyCollector: Okay, back to DC characters. Batgirl is boring, but the doll has a Poser body AND she came with that Batcycle. Neat, huh?

PhillyCollector: And see the side. Nice, right?

Alert Reader: You also have the Tommy and Kelly Batman and Catwoman Giftset.

PhillyCollector: ... and I had the Collector Edition of Barbie as Catwoman. Although I sold her and the Takara Catwoman that I had. Nice to have had them.

Alert Reader: So, it's not surprising that you want a DC character. You have them. What's different about Wonder Woman?

PhillyCollector: I have never had a Wonder Woman doll before.

Superman Ken: Can we discuss how I am boring?

Alert Reader and PhillyCollector: No.

  2. Me, too! She's gorgeous! I'm headed to a comic convention in early September. Do you think she might be available by then?

  3. Love that bike! Spiderman was/is my favorite. I'm cool with Batman, but I want him to have superpowers. Without superpowers I always worry that he will not survive. And who wants to see a hurt, banged up, superhero? I am a fan of his vehicles, though. And Wonder-woman.....love her!

  4. Just love your dialogue with the "Alert Reader"! This reader agrees, that the new Wonder Woman would be a great addition to your collection!

  5. Hi Billa's Dolls and Fashions, Lila Phillips, Vanessa, and Phyllis!

@Billa's Dolls and Fashions - I haven't kept up with the current Spiderman stories, but I mean to do so ... but he was my favorite when I was a child and during my teen and adult years. We've all got good taste, yes!

I find the DC Comics Superman character boring; my Superman Ken though is fun. He should know I did not mean that he is boring ;-)

@Lila Phillips - this WW doll along with a Batman and a Superman doll will be shown at this year's Comic Con, but she won't be for sale until Spring 2016.

@Vanessa - Me, too, lol. Love the bike that is. Weird because I do not drive anything. Love my playscale vehicles though.

Fist bump - Spidey forever. I LOVE his quips.

Batman - I hate to see him banged up, but it seems so part of his persona. Like he's punishing himself as well as the villains. Deep dude, Batman.

Wonder Woman - comic and tv versions - never caught on for me. I'm doing a post about her though. More on that ....

@Phyllis - lol @"Alert Reader" - no one's ever accused me of lacking imagination, ha ha.

Will you be getting the new Wonder Woman Barbie? Snoopy me ;-P

  6. That new Wonder Woman looks awesome - a solid addition to any wish list!

And heh, the Alert Reader might not be singing, but I'm going to have the Batman theme in my head for the rest of the day! "Da na na na na na na na… Batman!"

  7. Hi jSarie! Yeah, she looks great.

The Alert Reader is not keen on my singing, lol. Let's say, I was not gifted with a good voice.

But hey, you and I can "sing" that theme in our heads all day. Who can complain about that, lol?

  8. What a fun post! That WW looks pretty impressive in the prototype, but they always do. From the pic it looks like they are introducing a new kind of elbow joint. I'd like to see that in person.

  9. Superman is eye candy. Batman is cool and complex. I never did get into Spider Man. And that Wonder Woman doll looks a-ma-zing as does the trailer for new Batman v. Superman Dawn of Justice movie which will feature the title heroes plus Wonder Woman. I'm actually looking forward to it.

  10. Hi Muff and Jewell!

@Muff - glad you enjoyed this post. I hope the WW doll looks as good as the prototype. I was pleasantly surprised that her upper arms seem to have articulation similar to some action figures. We will see ....

@Jewell - lol@"Superman is eye candy." Yeah, he's good for that.

Interesting how different characters appeal to different people ;-)

I'm curious how they can turn a goofy "what if" into a full length movie. (Much as I prefer Batman, I can't see him beating Superman. Not a fair fight.)

  11. If you have some free time, check out the "I'm a Marvel. And I'm a DC." videos on YouTube. Some guy acts out scenarios with his action figures, kind of based on a popular series of commercials. :)

We're pretty much Marvel people here; my husband and daughter have seen all the Marvel movies and watch Agents of Shield and Agent Carter. My husband does like to play Batman: Arkham Asylum though. :)

I don't have the Batman theme in my head, but the Spiderman one (Spiderman, Spiderman, friendly neighborhood Spiderman.) Maybe that's because my daughter's tap class did a dance to that song earlier in the year, as crooned by Michael Buble. My daughter's dance songs tend to become earworms for me, since I hear them over and over and over.

  12. Also, please forgive me if I had a senior moment and told you something that I'd told you before.

  13. How cute! The first part of the song comes to mind...dodododododododo...BATMAN! LOL

  14. Hi Barb the Evil Genius and Hi The Grandmommy!

@Barb - yay, Team Marvel! Now Spidey's theme is vying with Batman's now. I liked that cartoon, too. I'm not familiar with Michael Buble, but that tap routine sounds cool. I don't recall you mentioning the comic themed videos - OMG, I gotta see them!

I got no bias against senior moments or junior ones. Could bypass the mid-life creaking I've been getting though ...

@The Grandmommy - you are yelling that, yes? LOL. It's that sort of tune.

  15. I think Batman might be my favorite too.

I like the cute way you wrote this post. :-)

  16. Hi Chasing Joy! Yes, Batman is pretty cool. (Spidey is my favorite, but Batman follows close behind him. I can't resist the smart aleck.)

Curtsy - glad you liked it ;-)
