Seven Years Makes Me Think Long-term Goals

Seven years for a marriage means wool, copper, or brass gifts. With A PhillyCollector's anniversary being in late August, we're bypassing wool in favor of copper and brass. The DAFs found a Barbie tea kettle for this post's photo. Gifts are not as important as reflections. (Um, that's how not so keen on copper, brass, and wool I am. But I digress ;-)

Let's talk GOALS.

My long-term goals for this blog are

* to be a reference for collectors of 1:6 aka playscale vinyl/plastic dolls and action figures,

* to be a forum where collector/enthusiasts can react to dolls, action figures, and related events,

* to curate other blog posts or websites of interest to collector/enthusiasts, and

* to share the creative fun of customizing figures and creating fashions, diorama, and stories.

Is there anything else I should add to that list?

  2. Great goals D7ana! I think you've already accomplished all of those. Your goals can always be tweaked over time as you deem necessary. :-)

  3. Your goals are plenty! My favorite part of what you do is the "X month" coverage -- I think I found your site because of a post on GLBTQ doll characters and stuck around over Hispanic Heritage Month.

  4. Solid goals!

I think you're already more than on point for all of them, from reference to conversation. I'd second what Smaller Places said about the "X month" coverage - I always think those are interesting and educational. :)

  7. Seven years! Wow, that's impressive.

Looks like you're doing a great job on those goals so far! My favorite item on the list is customizing and creating clothing. I always love to see the things you make, and as a hoarder of customizing resources on Pinterest, I'd be happy to share my favorite resources with you. <3

  9. Hi Jaye, Cindi Mortensen, Smaller Places, jSarie, The grandmommy, Barb the Evil Genius, Sarah Sequins, and Brini!

@Jaye and @Cindi Mortensen - glad you approve the list and I appreciate the reminder that it can be updated ;-D

@Smaller Places and jSarie - I'd miss my heritage/tribute month posts so they're staying. I'm glad you enjoy them ;-)

@The grandmommy - who me miss an opportunity to mug it up? "Monkeyshine" is my second middle name ;-)

@Barb the Evil Genius - i like busy and sometimes lazy, lol. I wanted to confirm to myself as well as to my public. (General public: Who cares about some whacko doll collector. Shrug.)

    @Sarah Sequins - yep, 7 years ;-)

I haven't sewn anything lately, but customizing goes on regardless. I see your Custom Dolls Pinterest board - and other dolly boards that I am following. Please let me know if I miss here ;-)

@Brini - thanks for the compliment and support ;-)

  10. Your goals are already on point. I love reading your post. They are always so informative about things that I didn't know and they are also inspiring. Keep up the great work of what you are already doing and add as you may.

  11. I think you are solid on most of these but I can't recall seeing you, "curate other blog posts or websites of interest to collector/enthusiasts." Have you shared that with us before and I don't remember or its something you want to get started on?

I know you wanted to sell some items. Have you thought of opening up your own doll marketplace or something like that?

  12. Hi Georgia Girl and Muff!

@Georgia Girl - thanks for the compliments and the encouragement! You inspire me to continue.

@Muff - thanks for your feedback. By "curate," I mean "share." If I find a web page or site with relevant information or with stunning photos, I'll post the link here. I'd like to provide more reasons why so I want to develop those kinds of posts more.

About selling doll stuff, I'd like to work with an established vendor like Toys R Us or a regular flea market vendor to sell stuff from. About 15 years ago, a specialty store allowed collectors to meet in the store's warehouse and to check out the store's stock. I'd add a sell/trade component to that store/collector intersection. The store would allow the sale/trade, but not be liable for it. That's a future wish.

I'm thinking Facebook Marketplace for now. In the past, I've used eBay and The Doll Page and "For Sale" lists on doll boards.

Thanks for asking; answering helps me think about it.

  13. I don't think I have anyting to add, except that your blog is already a useful reference site - every time I google something doll-related, I seem to end up here! Your monthly theme posts have been great for learning about new dolls.
