Which Rebelde Doll to Buy? Schoolgirl or Concert?

Mattel issued two versions of the Rebelde or RBD female dolls: the schoolgirl one and the concert one. Is there a difference between the two? Yes, Virginia, there is.

The Schoolgirl RBD dolls are on the shortened "Hobbit" body while the Concert RBD dolls are on normal-Barbie bodies. Yay Concert dolls!

However, the hair styles on the Roberta Schoolgirl and the Roberta Concert dolls differ. I think the Schoolgirl doll has a prettier face - she has a right side part. The Concert doll has short bangs. Guess who's going to play Frankenstein and swap heads? Ah, you know me well LOL.

Here are the photos for comparison:

First Anniversary of A PhillyCollector of Playscale Dolls ...

Last August 21, 2008, I started this blog with a post about the Mattel Rebelde male dolls. One year later, it seems fitting to have this post about the Rebelde guys and show them with two of their local fans.

Goals for my blog this year include:

  • Include projects

  • Improve photography

  • Increase readers

  • Provide more news

I have enjoyed writing here and receiving responses from other collectors. The sharing and dialogue enhance my enjoyment of the hobby.

Thanks for your time and efforts.

At Ross - It's a Brand New Save ....

The Wyncote Ross has the High School Musical 3 "In the Spotlight" set with Tiara Gold and Sharpay Evans for $6.99. The Walmart price is either $19.99 or $29.99.

Another Ross saving is the High School Musical 3 Senior Year Gabriella bedroom set for $12.99. Toys R Us and Walmart both still have that doll-playset at $29.98.

Other Ross savings include:

HSM 3 Graduation single dolls, Gabriella, Troy, and Sharpay for $5.99 each

HSM 3 Gabriella and Troy Tree House Moment set for $9.99

HSM 2 Gabriella and Troy Together at Last set for $9.99

HSM 2 School Spirit Gabriella or Troy for 5.99 each

And the pièce de résistance ... Rebelde doll sets. I saw one Miguel and Mia and one Giovanni and Lupita; $6.99 each two-doll set.

So fellow collectors, if you find yourself in a location with a Ross store and a Toys R Us or a Walmart or a Target, you could save money by checking the Ross store first.

New Series: Mixis Biracial/Multiracial Dolls

Late last night, while tormenting myself with the low cost of the Rebelde sets on Amazon.com and seeking online photos of the actual dolls, I discovered a new series of dolls. The doll series is called Mixis, and they are created by YNU Group, Incorporated.

(Aside, it is the nature of doll and action figure collectors to seek new figures to obsess over. Keeps the thrill of the hunt alive. Always something on the horizon.)

(Aside 2, actually, I was checking for Rebelde photos when I came across a blurb about Kmart seeking ethnic dolls. So I HAD to investigate -- collector = curious -- and zap! I saw these gorgeous new-to-me dolls. I HAVE to have them, of course. But I was not actively seeking them. They came to my notice.)

Here are the website links for the company and for the website showing the dolls. The dolls are available at Dolls Like Me.

They remind me of the Get Set Club dolls produced locally around 1999. Sigh. Those dolls weren't out long; they didn't take. I liked and like them. They aren't as pretty as Barbies, but they have definite noses and intelligent faces. Not that all Barbies look like bimbos. (Better watch myself; might get in trouble with Mattel. And I tithe to them so often, that would be a shame. Note the Rebelde obsession.)

Someone has to go through her collection and start purging.

Seeking Rebelde Guys in the Vinyl II

The Rebelde Guys are not available at this time at the Toys R Us in Wyncote yet. I haven't seen them in the South Philly Walmart or the South Philly Target either. I think that they might not be available until later in the year here in Philly. Closer to the holidays, perhaps ....

2008 Rebelde Lupita and Roberta

I've seen the Rebelde Concert versions of the female members before but just decided to get them today. Found Lupita at K B Toys for $12.99 and Roberta at Family Dollar for $10.00. (I had gone to K B Toys first and although they only had the one Lupita, I liked her makeup and her hairline. Note: some Lupitas have low hairlines.)

The make-up on the Concert version of Roberta is less intense than the Schoolgirl Roberta. The Schoolgirl version has the overkohled eye makeup.

I had gone in the Family Dollar expecting to find older Barbies like the Birthstone ones. It was a pleasant surprise to find ALL three of the Concert Rebelde females there instead. Cheers for Family Dollar!

K B Toys is having a sale; buy 2 and get 1 free, I think. I asked one of the workers if she knew when the Rebelde boys would be arriving. She didn't know. Corporate sends stuff in, and the employees unpack them. Sigh. I'll check for Miguel, Giovanni, and Diego at the end of this week or early next week at Toys R Us.

I might have to go to the suburbs to find the guys ... the last time I searched for some Integrity Playline dolls (Janay, Alyssa, and Jade), I lucked out -- found them -- in a Norristown Walmart. Collectors have to do what we have to do to update the collection.

Rebelde Search Continued

Has anyone seen the Rebelde guy-girl sets in the Philadelphia and Greater Philadelphia area? I'm inclined to get them, but I would rather pay local cost than online costs. Sigh. Then some online sites like Angelic Dreamz no longer have these dolls. Double sigh.

I'm putting my query here and I'll contact some of my Yahoo Groups as well.

I've got a Body Double Veronique coming. So I need to avoid paying more than I have to for them.
