Get Set Club Dolls

The Get Set Club dolls are an exciting series of dolls from around 1999-2000 that were created by Jenny Baker. The dolls were geared to be an alternate choice to Barbie and the Cult of Pretty and Delicate. The Get Set Club dolls or G-Five as they were also called -- G-Five because there are five of them and their names are Gia, Fiona, Isabella, Vanessa, and Eva -- were based on a more "natural" or "average" proportioned woman. Translation: they had smaller breasts and fuller hips and butts as well as heavier legs and bigger feet than Barbie and the Barbie clones out. And most exciting to me, each doll had her own face sculpt. Yippee!

Unfortunately, the Get Set Club dolls did NOT succeed as hoped. The set of guy dolls that were to follow and the playsets and the outfits were never put on the market -- to my knowledge.

Mixis News and Link to a Photo

I've been searching for photos of the 2009 Mixis dolls, but I haven't found any yet. I submitted a query about any online photos to YNU Group in case there are any official ones out that I haven't found. The Canadian Toy Association held their Toy Fair on January 24-26, 2009; the Mixis were at Booth 819. So maybe, maybe there are photos out now. If not now, I'll wait until after the U.S. Toy Fair later this month.

HOWEVER, I did find a photo of the new Mixis Wardrobe at the Canadian Toy Association's web page:

I can't tell whether the wardrobe is made from wood or particle board or plastic. Those details will follow. But to have found the photo pleases me. Photos of the dolls will come later. It would be great if ASM (formerly Altered States Magazine) at www.asmzine.com and www.alteredstatesmag.com would review the Mixis dolls. Well, I can dream hmmmmm?

I like combining the figures - posing two or more figures to hint at a story. More fun for me although keeping figures still and/or standing can be difficult.

Mixis Dolls and Outfits in Another Blog! Great Photos!

As I mentioned in another post, I am always seeking new links about 1:6 scale dolls and action figures. So I skimmed an article by Lee Odden called 6 Social Search Engines to Start 2009. Mr. Odden mentioned a social search engine that I had NOT used before, WhosTalkin?. Well, I clicked on the link and voila! in addition to my PhillyCollector blog, I netted another blog with an article on the Mixis dolls.

The article, Mixis Collectible Dolls Are Worldly In Their Fashion And Looks by Kris Abel in his blog, Tech Life: 21st Century Gadgets and Toys, provides information about the Mixis dolls AND lovely photos of the dolls and their sold separate outfits. Now I MUST get the Chinese and the Central American outfits after seeing photos of the outfits in their baggies and on some of the dolls.
