Help Dolls of Color Create Janay Database
Dolls of Color blogger Therese seeks photos and information about Integrity's playline Janay doll for a Janay database. Yay Therese!
While I have several Janay and friends dolls, my Janay dolls all have the last Janay head mold stamped ©Integrity 2001. I recall reading doll descriptions on the Dolls, Dreams, and Cuddly Things web site several years ago that noted whether certain Janay, Alysa, and Jade dolls had the old, big heads or the newer, smaller heads. I also recall seeing web sites showing two Janay head molds different from the head mold I have. Check the Janay shown at this link; note the size of her head and her features. This is an early Janay. Perhaps some PhillyCollector readers collect or used to collect the Janay playline. If you do or did, and if you would like to contribute to this database, please check Therese's blog for contact information.
Here's to a Janay and friends database in 2010.
Dolls shown in the photo are the Dealer version of Fashion Insider Janay, Color Rave Alysa (2nd Alysa head mold), and Fashion Fling Alysa (3rd Alysa head mold).

A Janay database is a great idea. I don't think I have any of the early Janays but there are usually some for sale on ebay. Flickr is a good place to look for doll pics.
I also remember that there were these Janay and Jordan sets. I think the sets had the old Janay headmold but I don;t remember very well.
Thanks for the linkage!
That doll "Janay 11 1/2" African Dancer" looks quite strange with her big head hehehe *interesting*
... does that website (Dolls of All Colors) have anything that is actually available and NOT sold out *confused*
Sometime last year, I had asked if there were any online references on Janay and Friends Integrity playline dolls. Nothing out there today. I'm glad that Therese is taking on this project: I think it will be exciting.
Yes, Kim, I remember those, too. The Janay and Jordan/Keith/Tariq wedding sets. Some sets had an older face mold, but there were also sets with the third Janay head mold. Sigh. I only have an Alysa and Alejandro set. There was a Giselle and Justin set as well that is the only set from these dolls that I can think as being rare. Not that I am a doll dealer, so maybe there are others ....
Therese, you are welcome. I'll try to post to other doll sites I go to as well. Spread the message.
I thought that one or two of the dolls were still available from Dolls of All Colors. Hmmm ... checked and they are ALL gone. I included the link so that the earlier Janays could be seen.
Thanks to your images... I've started it!
Janay Face Sculpt
(I've stopped using the word mould and started using sculpt for no other reason besides getting bored of the world "mould" - plus sculpt sounds prettier lol oh inconsistency! bah!)
Yay, Therese! Applause! Encore!
"Sculpt" does sound prettier. Considering ....
Here is a link to an ebay auction of a Janay that I forgot about - Serengeti Sunsets Janay

I have this doll somewhere around here. There was also another collector's Janay doll - Mozambique Masquerade (which I don't have). As I recall, both of these dolls came out long after they were supposed to - maybe a year long delay. I found another site with some Janay pics:

Here si another Janay and A Jordan and Janay set on auction at ebay. These are older dolls. You may be able to contact the seller and see if you can use his/her pics:

Dana, I knew about the Alysa and Alejandro set but I didn't know there was a Giselle and Justin set. I am not sure whether I even remember what Justin looks like.
This is a great project! It seems like there were a lot of lines for this doll.
Kim, congratulations on having the Serengeti Sunsets Janay. I remember Mozambique Janay as a fancy dressed collectors' doll. The only collector Janay I have is the first Icon Janay. I love her shorter haircut.
Thanks for the links to the other Janay dolls and doll sets. Sigh. To think that I used to be able to go to a Kmart or even Walmart and get them off the shelves.
I only saw the Giselle and Justin set once in Philly - at the Kmart on Aramingo Avenue. I also saw them advertised for a while on Suzanne's Dolls, Dreams, and Cuddly Things website. Justin looked like Alejandro with white hair. The couple - Giselle and Justin - both wore white outfits. Her a gown and him a tux.
I guess the good thing about being a fan of dolls no longer in production is that you save money LOL
*cough* actually I'm watching an ebay auction for Janay Serengeti ebay item #170428691211 - I always share ebay things, the way I see it... if another collector buys the doll instead of me, it is still "in the community" hehehe
Thanks for sharing that link, Therese!
You can also save if the discontinued line of dolls show up at discount stores. Or pay more if the demand is high and the supply is low. Groan.
I love their hair!
Interesting colors and textures, hmm, Beebo? For Integrity to be a small company, they [and Jason Wu] have presented kids and collectors with some of the most interestingly coiffed dolls.
i have the 3 doll egyptian set- adora, janay, and tariq and the tariq african prince,
looking forward to getting info on the dolls and hearing from others.
Wow, I didn't know that there was a three doll set. (Three dolls in one box? Neat!) That's cool. I have Queen Adora, but I did not get Prince Tariq or Princess Janay.
If you would like to share any online photos that you have, please write with the link. I am sure other Janay fans would love to see your dolls.
