Downsizing - No, Rightsizing! And Decisions ....

I was going through my doll and action figure stuff when I realized that - as fellow collector Kim stated, I am NOT downsizing, I am actually "rightsizing." The difference is that "rightsizing" means I am removing stuff I no longer need to keep. That removal allows space for the things I want to access. On the other hand, "downsizing" makes me think "loss" and "reduction."

So I am "rightsizing." Grin.

Thanks, Kim, it sounds nicer already. Less punitive ring.

I've found some more things to add to my Exit List. Three playsets: an extra Power Team gym I forgot that I had, Skipper's Teen Slumber Party Bedroom, and the Stylin' Dressing Room of Mary-Kate and Ashley. Those are to go. No problem. I have someone who might want the gym. Will check with him before offering on The Doll Page. Some more difficult decisions, too.

Like the 2004 and 2008 Barbie for Presidents dolls. I have both the Asian American and the Hispanic dolls for 2004 and the Asian American doll for 2008. Problem? I want the red pants suit from the 2004 doll but I prefer the Asian doll for 2008. (The 2008 doll has a more interesting hairstyle. Seems less "dolly.") So I'm trying to decide whether I will debox the Hispanic or the Asian 2004 doll for the suit and if I will keep the 2008 Asian American doll. I also have a Fashion Fever doll with similar coloring only different facial screening and hairstyle from the 2008 Asian American Barbie for President. Sigh. Time for photo help.

And here's another photo with the two Asian American dolls that I may or may not keep. They don't look so very alike. The Hispanic Barbie for President has the Teresa head mold and an average face screening. So I might debox her so that I can keep that outfit. Sell the 2004 Asian American NRFB and the 2004 Hispanic doll nude and keep the other two. (Sell the cheesy blue-multi striped suit of the 2008 Asian American Barbie for President.)

I can adjust as I see the other dolls being sold. Just have to remember that I am rightsizing. Right ....

I like the lady in red, even the doll. More than the one in blue. They have the same face mold right? Of course, it's not going to be my decision.

I watched "Up in The Air" recently. They said not to use the statement "you've been fired" and instead use "you've been let go." I imagine Dana telling her DAF "You've been let go. Our company in undergoing major changes. We'll do our best to help you build a bright future with your new owner. In front of you is a severance package with includes online exposure and playtime before departure..."

Hehehe.

Thanks for my first morning laugh, Niel. I love the image of me standing before the emigrating dolls and action figures and telling them that part of their severance package includes online exposure and playtime before they leave. Nothing harsh as "Look, I got limited space. You don't interest me anymore so you gotta go. I got bills to pay. You can take this, but leave that."

(Cringe. Once upon a time, I bought that doll or action figure. How can I break the news to them like that? Shudder.)

Since I wrote this post, I deboxed the Teresa. Dangerous move to have made. She looks like the best Teresa I have ever had. Her hair color is gorgeous; the face paint is lovely. Head is adequate, size-wise. I'm going to keep her.

On the plus side though, I have decided to sell the lady in blue. I prefer the Fashion Fever doll to the 2008 President doll.

On the down side again though, I think I'm starting to change my mind about the 2004 Asian American Barbie for President. Not too bad though - just need to look through my Asian Barbie females ....

Oh and Niel, I am not sure that both the Asian American Barbies for President have the same Kayla/Lea face mold. The 2004 doll seems to have a slightly longer head.

I really need to thin through some of my stuff as well. I've got a lot of playsets and furniture I haven't even opened.

It's hard to let things go without knowing when Mattel will release realistic furniture again.

MSJ, there is that ... anxiety that the furniture and stuff we have won't be produced again. I haven't gotten to the deboxed furnishings. Now, I'm focused on breaking down the boxed stuff and setting aside stuff to sell.

Good luck though with your thinning out project. (I look at what I have and ask myself how would I use this piece? Do I really need/want it?)

These are both pretty and interesting dolls. I don't know how I feel about the Marilyn Monroe Gentlemen Prefer Blondes styled dress with the 2008 doll, though. I feel like I am getting a mixed message with this doll. Good luck on your decision.

Ah, that's why the 2008 Barbie's dress looked familiar. Thanks, Kim, for that information.

I'vew changed my mind and opened the 2004 Teresa. The 2004 and the 2008 Asian American Barbies for President will probably go. This time, Teresa's the keeper ;-D
