A late comment but I'm just now catching up on my blog reading. I always wondered if Veteran's Day was on the same day as our Remembrance Day - obviously it is. Do you also observe a minute's silence at 11 am as a time to remember all those who have died in various wars?

Yes, the U.S. Veterans Day and the Australian Remembrance Day are on the same date. However, I am not aware of any moments of silence practiced here. Some people might do so, but I haven't seen that as general practice.
In the U.S., Veterans Day is a government holiday (no mail, government offices and banks closed) although some schools, stores, other businesses can be open as on ordinary work or weekend days.
