Which - if Any - of These Dolls Do You Think the World Could Have Done Without?

Short post: this author shows eleven dolls she feels the world could have done without having. Do you agree?

Me, I disagree. I think that all of the dolls - even the out sized Steve Urkel doll - pause to shudder - have a place in American culture. So they have meaning and stir fondness for someone. Maybe they bring memories or reminders of some event in our lives. Moreover, even if people were not or are not fond of the dolls as representatives of bygone television characters, the dolls can provide variation to current collections. While I was never a fan of either Saved by the Bell or Beverly Hills, 90201, I like the faces on these dolls. I would re-body the Saved dolls onto taller bodies - of course - so that their heads and bodies would better suit my taste.

Well, that is my opinion. What is yours? Would any of these be welcome additions to your collection?

I embarrassed to say, I have almost every one of those dolls! I must have loved them to buy them, no regrets.

Yay, Pattidolls. Congrats on having them. Glad that they are appreciated somewhere ;-)

Would be fun to see them on your site ;-)

I like the Saved and the 90210 dolls, but I would've rebodied them also. I have the Rosie O'Donnell doll. Matter of fact, I found her yesterday when I was reorganizing my collection. LOL :-)

Hi Cindi! Congrats on having the Rosie doll and on finding her = very important the latter. Actually, I have Rosie and Blossom. Would also add Six and Joey to my Wish List and Dionne from the Clueless television show ...

Oh, you are reorganizing? Go on, that's cool. I need to do that soon. Best luck with the reorganizing. Thanks for the reminder ;-)

First, I don't know how that is an article because other than a title and images, there's no commentary to tell me the reasons why the dolls were a waste to be made.

Second of all, are you kidding me?! I would love to have any of them, especially The Nanny! OMG that was my show back in the day. Does this author (said loosely)have something against awesome TV shows?

Pfft!

Well I was nodding and giggling until I saw MC Hammer on the list. What??? Not Hammer! LOL! That is the only doll on the list that I own, although I wouldn't mind having Dionne from Clueless, Lark Voorhies from Saved by the Bell, Rosie, and Mimi. I was planning to write about my MC Hammer doll soon.

Hi! I would want most of them, I love TV and movie dolls, it's just a trip down memory lane. I once had the Beverly Hills 90210 dolls, and am sorry I don't have them anymore. Greetings from Belgium!

I agree with you! All of these dolls have their place! Would I personally have all of them....No! But it is a personal choice. I do have Dionne, Joey, Rosie and two of the 91210 dolls. I'm still looking for a Dylan.

The first time I came by now husbands house, he had a stuffed Alf sitting on the sofa. This was before he knewI collected dolls.

Like Muff, I would like to know the reason for them not being worth having.

Most of my non-Mattel dolls are stored in my attic and it's like -10 degrees here, so maybe I will take a trip up there when it warms up.

I actually have a Brandon doll that I found in a thrift store when I was looking for a Boyfriend doll (for one of my dolls, NOT myself). I didn't recognize him at the time but he was so different from the usual Kens and GI Joes that I got him. He even still had his clothes.

As for the others, I can certainly live without them but there was obviously a market out there for them (or the toymakers THOUGHT there was). And if everybody liked the dolls I like, I'd never find any more.

Hi Muff, Roxanne, Nymphaea, Ms. Leo, Pattidolls, and AudraBark1!

@Muff - I agree that the title and the doll photos - borrowed photos at that - did not seem enough to warrant an article.

I'd pass on the Nanny if she talked - aye, that voice, lol - and big Urkel - wait, he was annoying so I'd pass on him, too. But several of those dolls are cute as stand-alone figures. Add the culture value and that is a plus for me.

@Roxanne - I'm sure I'd enjoy your MC Hammer post. Pity the doll couldn't do those moves, lol. Now that would be fun!

@Nymphaea - I hope you can get your 90210 dolls again someday. You might enjoy seeing the celebrity dolls at Patti's blog. Thanks for writing from Belgium. Nice to hear from European collectors ;-)

@Ms. Leo - oh, yes, not all of them for me either. Not enough space and I wouldn't personally want them all. Several, yes. Nice though for others ;-)

@Pattidolls - enough said. Down in Philly the temp is low ... Tuesday is supposed to be single digits, I think. Hold off until the temperature is normal. Will check your current and past online photos ;-D

@AudraBark1 - I remember seeing your Brandon on your website. Congrats on having him. He's a cutie. And I agree, if we all liked the same dolls, we'd never find the ones we liked. So vive la difference!

Oh my, I would love to have any of these dolls. What one person considers trash another person can consider treasure. You are right, I'm sure there are people who value these dolls and their memories of getting them.

What was that person smoking? I didn't know there was a Uncle Joey doll out there. I've been dying for the 90210 dolls. That was my show. I have the Dennis Miller doll. He is the dentist in my town. He makes a great older doll. I also have the Rosie doll.

TM said...

Not particularly a fan of any of the mentioned dolls but to each their own, right? Someone somewhere out there likes them and that's perfectly all right.

D7ana said...

Hi, Eve*Sparkle, Vanessa, and TM!

@Eve*Sparkle - I agree with your trash-treasure comparison.

@Vanessa - beats me what that person was smoking. Sounds pretty arrogant to dismiss those programs and to assume that all readers will also dismiss ALL of those shows.

I'd like a Joey and a Six and some of the others, too. Sigh. Someday ;-)

@TM - agreed ... to each his or her own ;-D

What I like about celebrity dolls is they often get a unique face mold, which is always a plus in my book. And if it doesn't really look like them - even better! Just makes it easier to recast them as someone else. It's what I plan to do with my Mimi if I ever get around to it...

D7ana said...

Hi Anderson's All-Purpose! I agree with you about hooray for a new face mold. Whether it looks like the target or not.

May you get to casting your Mimi as you want to ;-)
