Chinese New Year: Mattel's Festivals of the World Barbie
Once, this doll was in the "To Go" pile. Then I noticed her butterfly earrings and thought: oh, no, those are just precious. I cannot sell them. (Me who has not worn jewelry since the 1980s.) Then I noticed the equally pretty butterfly hair ornament and that the doll's face was well-drawn. No oversized, watery eyes like some of the 1990s dolls. Oh, heck, she's staying. And so the "To Go" pile loses a box. Shrug. Better now than later.
Anyway, since she is staying and mirabile dictu, relevant to a theme for this month, I thought I would share a few photos of her here. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to get her butterfly earrings just so. The February theme she represents? Why the Chinese New Year!
She's a little early, yes. But I needed a bit of brightness and luck today.

Hi D7ana, I agree with you, she's got a very beautiful screening
Oh heck yeah, that one's a keeper.
She's lovely, I can see why she gets to stay!
Oh yes, you have to keep her, she unique!
I'm so glad you're keeping her! She's lovely.
Yes, she is a beautiful doll. I also own this doll. She has been left as is and is in my glass doll display case. I own quite a few Asian dolls and we celebrate CNY every year. This one is definitely a keeper!
Beautiful doll! I clearly see why she is no longer in the "to go" box. Everything is nice about her.
Hi all - at the Library on a deadline - thanks for your comments. I agree, she's lovely AND unique ;-)
Yep! A keeper alright!
Good decision! She does look lovely.
I kept her for sure and I think I had one NRFB ready to be sold. I'm working on my resolve for no duplicates. I do have twins, triplets, and a set of quads but those were before the new rules were set LOL.
Keep it up and I hope your computer gets fixed :O)
She's gorgeous; I'd keep her as well. Are her shoes flats, or do they have a heel? They look different than the generic flat.
Love, love, love that dress!
The “to go/to stay” project looks to me to have an added bonus of seeing treasures with refreshed eyes. She’s lovely, and having being reminded of things you love about her, I would think she would feel like a new dolly. That’s got to be a good feeling - better than shelling out money for a new one off the retailer’s shelf. I think your project is working. ツ
She is really beautiful, definitely a keeper. I'm sure you're going to discover lots of treasures with this project of yours. Hope your computer gets fixed soon.
Very pretty doll. I like all of the details.
Hi The grandmommy, Troy, Dollz4Moi, Barb the Evil Genius, Muff, Roville, Carrickters, and Chasing Joy!
@The grandmommy and Troy - yes, she's a special doll ;-)
@Dollz4Moi - thanks for reminding me that other collectors have multiples of the same or near same doll. Thanks for the encouragement!
@Barb the Evil Genius - oh I'm so glad you asked. I'll post photos of the heeled and laced shoes.
@Muff - yes, it's cheery ;-) I'll share a few more photos.
@Roville - yes, it is as if I just bought her. Without paying whatever cost she would be today ;-)
@Carrickters - I LOVE re-discovering "lost" treasures. The computer problem might last longer than I'd like. Won't be easy toting a desktop system out in the snow :-{ Thanks for the kind wish though ;-)
@Chasing Joy - the details "make" this doll pop ;-)
