Glue-head Barbie Information Requested

Does anyone know if there is a list of glue-headed Barbies online? Are the dolls issued from one or more countries? Does anyone know which dolls started with this problem? Any links - including your own - smile - to blog posts or online articles about this problem.

Why do I want to know?

1. so that I can not buy those dolls

2. because I was asked about it.

Thanking you in advance for any feedback.

P.S. Does anyone have the url of the petition demanding Mattel eliminate the glue-filled heads problem. Thanks again!

Dolls made in Indonesia used to be the offenders, but recently I've heard people complain about dolls made in China as well. Not all factories in China use glue, but it looks like they're headed there.

Mattel seems to have phased out loop-locked rooting in favour of pushing hair into holes and filling the head with glue to the brim. If the glue is removed, the hair falls out. The one petition I saw about this problem was stopped, and I don't know if others were started. There must be a serious economic incentive to switching all rooting equipment that leaves them deaf to all complaints.

Hi and thanks for this information, Black Kitty!

The petition against filling doll heads with seeping glue was stopped? Bizarre!

My guess is that it might be a matter of time, Probably quicker to fill the doll's head with glue and then thrust in hair - or vice-versa - then to take that little bit more time to do the loop-lock rooting.

Poor way to repay customer loyalty.

The glue is coming to China as well? That's just great. Someone should ask Mattel what exactly is in that stuff - if I had kids I really wouldn't feel safe giving them a Mattel doll. :/

I'm sorry I don't have any more info - BlackKitty, I found your posts about the glue problem really useful, especially the link to the chemical discoveries on the Russian doll forum (or at least what I managed to glean from the google translation). I've posted about it but it's mostly just repeating your info: http://andersonsallpurpose.blogspot.se/2014/05/mattel-greasy-hair-problem.html

I had no idea this was a problem. Generally, I don't pay attention to the country of manufacture for dolls, but now I will. Hope you find out more about this situation and post the results.

Hello from Spain: the dolls in the collection playline always have hair with glue. It is a manufacturing problem. Barbies are created in China in low-skilled workers. Keep in touch

As many dolls as I have beheaded you'd think I'd know more about this. But I'm not a re-rooter so I've not paid much attention to if they were glued or threaded. I do know that those $5 Barbie's you can get at Walmart on special are filled with glue.

Thanks, Allenoel for the link. Shame that the petition closed before meeting its goal. Wonder if we fashion doll enthusiasts on Blogger all got together - us and our readers - if we could re-issue that petition?

Hi Anderson's All-Purpose, Troy, Marta, and Muff!

@Anderson's All-Purpose - looks like the glue-head is spreading. Talk about bad news!

Thanks for the link to your post about this problem. I'll add it to any post I do on this problem.

@Troy - will do. Thanks for reading and for checking!

@Marta - groan! What a danger to the kiddies. Thanks for sharing that tip.

@Muff - thanks for the warning about those $5 Walmart dolls. I'll pass on them.

I behead and re-head, lol, but I do not re-root. Too much trouble. Glad to read that you have not encountered this problem too often ;-)
