First, a "new" Mattel Ryan. Hey, is it just me or do they have different face molds? Neat.
And a new Skipper-Chelsea set. I like the concept and the face, but I still want the Walmart Disney Skipper. And does this new Skipper wear ugly clothes? (I think - yes!)

I have seen the new ken dolls but I have all I can handle right now, lol. I picked up the Skipper and Chelsea set at Knol's thanks to Khol's cash. I don't have a problem with their clothes except Chelsea, she has on a one piece bathing suit when you remove the grass skirt. Skipper, she's a winner, clothes I can deal with, you know being a "teenager".
Hi D7ana,
I have both of these dolls--the "new" Ken and Ryan. I don't like the fact that only their arms bend but their legs don't. I can't understand why Mattel did this--makes no sense to me. I also have the Skipper set. Her arms and wrists bend and her legs bend a little. She looks better if you take that silly grass skirt of her! LOL
Hello from Spain: I bought yesterday at Ryan. He has a different face mold Ken. In my country has not sold in stores these sisters. We keep in touch.
I still haven't seen these guys in my area and they've been out almost a year. I wonder if they aren't selling well here and that's why the new guys weren't stocked.
I do want that Ryan and have a Power Team body just waiting for him.
I like the new face mould but why doesn't he have articulated legs? I want my boys to be able to sit down.
I think it's the "2nd wave" Ryan, not a new doll at all. I have that one and I made him a reroot to become Loui from Interview with the Vampire :D
I'm curious why they made the male legs unarticulated. It's nice to see new face molds, though. The best thing about this Skipper is her articulated arms.
Last week I picked Ken in the stripped shirt up off the shelf, replaced him, picked him up again, replaced him… I love that shirt but don’t think it will be long enough to fit my FR guys. My Mattel boys are like, hey, what about us, but the Fashionista guys are just so doggone short. Cute though. And yep, the sculpts look different. Did they make it to your shopping basket?
congrats to your finds!
have you deboxed skipper yet? i was wondering if she has articulated knees & ankles as well...
greetings from cologne - silke
I think those two boys were released many months ago, but I only saw them for the first time in stores this week. I was all pumped up to buy Ryan when he was fresh, but all the magic wore off between then and now.
Hi Brini, Cindi, Marta, Muff, Carrickters, V., Vanessa, Roville, Anonymous, MissSpottyJane!
@Brini - poor Chelsea - only a swimsuit, darn! And I *get* you about having more than you can handle. Sigh.
@Cindi - thanks for your patience ;-D. Finally getting the messages through. I do not understand why Mattel stopped allowing bend knees for the guys. How will they sit at the tables with the gals? Grrr ...
@Marta - glad that you were able to get a Ryan. It can be hard to find the guys. Shame about the girls, but basically, they are the same as the others so outside the outfits - grass skirts - you probably aren't missing much.
@Muff - I am grinning from ear to ear at the prospect of a Power Team body waiting for a Ryan head. LOL.
@Carrickters and @Vanessa - oh, I like the new face. It seems less smarmy. But the no-bend legs - not at all ;-P
@V - thank for the info about him being a second wave Ryan. I'll have to check out your photo of him re-rooted as Louis.
@Roville - no, they didn't make it to my shopping basket. Rather regret leaving Ryan, but the Ken ... nah.
@Anonymous - alas, I didn't buy any of them. I am still holding out for the Walmart Disney Skipper and the Stacie wearing her hair brushed back and holding a cat. Sigh. Her legs look old school "bendable."
@MissSpottyJane - I lose the magic sometimes, too. Like with the vampire doll from Twilight. The first guy ... Prince Ghastly, lol. Saw him and just could NOT commit.
Hi again Dana! Long time no "see"! I still haven't had time to start my own blog, but I just had to comment on this post.
This Ken sat on the shelf at my local Kroger for a ridiculously long time. He came out last year, but I just bought him last month! Mine has the same blond hair and the same silly preppy outfit, but he doesn't look like either the generic vapid Ken face or this particular one you took a picture of-I think mine has a stronger nose and jawline. I bought him because he reminds me of one of my favorite actors, Reed Diamond (he's had substantial roles on "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Dollhouse," guest-starred on "The Mentalist" and "Revolution," and his current show "Franklin & Bash" ends its third season this Wednesday night). Whenever I get around to starting a blog, I'll post a photo of real Reed alongside his plastic counterpart to illustrate the resemblance.
I'm also irritated by the fact that these guys and the Fashionista Kens that came after them have lost their articulated knees-hell, I'll settle for click-bend knees! I'd find replacement legs and do a transplant on my plastic Reed if I had the skill or pay someone to do it if I had the money, but sadly I have neither. Maybe someday I'll be able to pay... Oh well, real Reed's characters tend to be uptight or evil or both anyway!
Hi Nikki! Glad to read you here ;-)
Congrats on getting your smarmy Ken, ha ha. You were meant to be together. He cast a spell on you ;-)
Aha! I've seen your Reed Diamond on Dollhouse and on The Mentalist - I liked him on both shows. He makes a good "bad guy", lol.
