New Monster High Clones ... Midnight Magic

Here is the backstory for the new Monster High clones, Midnight Magic: four teenaged friends sip a magic potion left out by an absent-minded professor and poof! Each receives a different magic power. Patty, Audra, Melanie, and Katie become Pippa, Adele, Mila, and Kayley from midnight until dawn. Their complexions turn as well - Pippa gets gray complexion and black hair; Adele gets pink complexion and black hair with pink streaks; Mila gets blue complexion and blue with purple hair; and Kayley gets purple complexion with dark reddish hair.

The most magical aspect of these dolls is their price: $5.00 each. Yes. And I saw them at Family Dollar stores in Philadelphia, PA. If you would like to see the dolls online, they have a website. Brought to you by the makers of Lovely Patsy.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that but at least it's a price that kids can afford. I don't know how well it would go over for a kid expecting a Monster and getting one of these instead though.

Hello from Spain: the best of the clones of Monsters is the price. These dolls are very cheap. It is always good to buy cheap dolls. Keep in touch

Hi Muff and Marta!

@Muff - I went to Family Dollar with my Mom and showed the dolls to her. She asked if I would accept them as Xmas presents. I winced, walked away, and said nooo ... I am posting about them but I don't want them.

They do look healthier - slightly rounder figures than the MH dolls, but I wouldn't want them in place of an MH doll so I think that any kid wanting a MH doll would NOT be pleased with the cheaper alternative. If the kid is younger or less brand-conscious, then maybe that kid wouldn't mind these dolls as substitutes. I would have though. I could care less about whether my sneakers were bo-bos when I was young, but my dolls ... grrr ... I never wanted the cheaper brands. Correction: seldom. Did want a few Shillman Maddie Mods long ago :-D

@Marta - yes, these dolls are very cheap. You can get more dolls for your money. Sometimes I like cheaper dolls if the quality looks good or there is something striking about the doll. But usually, I go towards pricier dolls for quality issues.

Hi Dana,
You sound like my niece :-)She was all about MH last Christmas and that's all she got!If it wasn't the real one, forget! and she was only 6 back them. I guess it's in the blood, her dad is a huge Star Wars's collector, so,nothing else to say.
Thanks for the post, I didn't even know about these dolls.
Keep in touch!

I saw these too! I like the face on the gray one a real treat and then... I saw the boots. All the shoes are painted on these dolls trick! The knee are not articulated but what do you expect for the price. They were 3 for 13.00.

I guess it was about time someone made clones of MH! The price is truly magical, and I agree, no kid (or adult collector) who wants MH would want these.
I read an article somewhere about how these products are designed to fool less-than-informed well-meaning relatives - usually the elderly - into buying these imitations in place of the real deal. The article was talking about movies, mainly, but I'm sure the same works for dolls.

Hi Limbe Dolls, Barbiecafe, Ms. Leo, and Back Row Girl!

@Paulette - glad you find them interesting. If you zazzed them up with one of your wigs and a Liv body, they would really shine ;-D

@Barbiecafe - so far, I have resisted the MH dolls, but if I could get them, I would. Sigh.

@Ms. Leo - I like the gray-faced one,too.
@BackRowGirl - oh, I definitely think that these products are intended to be considered "substitutes" for the MH dolls. They are cute, but if I were keener on the MH dolls, they would not be a substitute. But for themselves - in spite of the limited articulation - they would have some followers.
