Barbie's New Career Involves a Rabbit

No, I did not find a pregnant Barbie. Barbie never has taken on the role of "Mother;" my guess is that motherhood would impact her role as fashion model. (Really though? What about Cindy Crawford, etc. But that's never been an option for Barbie ... probably because it would bring in the taboo of sex and a children's toy. Shhh.)

No, the new career is Magician. Alas, I cannot upload my photo of the new "I Can Be ... Magician" Barbie doll. Yet. But this Barbie has a cute rabbit companion nestled in a purple top hat. It is the third playscale rabbit - after Liv doll Hayden's brown rabbit and the thin white rabbit that accompanied one of the 2009 "Think Pink" Barbies - that I would like to add to my collection. The rabbit is the best part of this doll set even if its head is slightly oversized.

I suppose the purple gown and accessories could be an improvement over the omnipresent pink, but not by much, I find. I would have given this doll a black sequin dress with a black felt top hat and a black or silver wand. But I suppose purple is a preferred color for the target audience that begins at 3 years old. (Wince. I forget how young the current Barbie doll target age is.)

So if you have been waiting for a magician Barbie, there is one in the "I Can Be" group. What do you think?

I just hope the outfit is better than the "I can be... paleontologist" top... no more half shirts, please! XD

She'll never headline in Vegas with clothes like that.

I bet that bunny is welded to that hat. I saw some set where the dog was welded into a purse.

Sheesh. And it's only a half-dress, at that! Hate Mattel's cheapness...it can't cost that much more to make the back of the dress match the front! :o(

Hi Heather, Muff, and Barbradoll!

@Heather and Barbradoll - Half-shirts and half-dresses are annoying. I mean at least make the thing full.

@Muff - oh no! Darn it. That's mean .... making me think that the rabbit can be removed. Sigh.

I've seen that doll, and I agree that purple is better than the sequined hot pink! Yuck! But, is the rabbit permanently attached to the hat?? If it is, it seems dumb. LOL :-)

That's very interesting. I wonder who came up with that idea. It's almost like they just pulled it out of a hat. LOL!

Purple *could* have worked, but what's with that pink vest/waistcoat detail? It's obviously meant to evoke a traditional magician's outfit, but I'm not sure I'm convinced... I hope you can at least pull the rabbit out of the hat, or there won't be much of a trick! :P

Well, the ad says the bunny 'fits in the hat' so maybe it can be removed and replaced. It would be nice if it could because the bunny is cute. The hat could maybe be painted. But the dress, hmm, I don't know. And she's not really articulated. The ad says four points of articulation which I guess means only the shoulders and hips. Not sure I want to add her to my collection - maybe if I was 3.

Hello from Spain: thanks for reporting. It's a very original idea. It's a Barbie as a magician ... Keep in touch

Hi Cindi, Vanessa, Carrickters, and Marta!

@Cindi and Carrickters - hoping that the bunny does not fit in the hat - although I don't know why since I am not likely to get this doll.

@Vanessa - lol - that's a good one! Pulled the idea out of a hat, ha ha! Maybe that's where half of the dress went ...?

@Marta - yes, magician as a career for someone as glamorous as Barbie is original. Usually in the U.S.A. magicians are considered geeks. (Dodging hats, rotten apples, etc.)

I was trying to comment on how weird that pink dress detail is, but blogspot must not agree because it keeps eating my comments... :(

Hi Anderson's All-Purpose! Blogspot has let your comment through - yay! And you know I agree about that silly dress ;-D

Hi Anderson's All-Purpose! Your earlier comment went to my Spam folder - shrug, I dunno why - but I overrode the system. Ta da!

I like your and Carrickter's comments about the rabbit coming out of the hat. It should, lol. Pretty pathetic "trick" it would be, otherwise.
