Military Camouflage Wear Among Civilians

I noticed a military camouflage backpack among my accessories and that sighting inspired this photo. we have two Kellys*, a Tommy, and a Jacob each wearing civilian fashions influenced by military camouflage. The ladies wear Mixis tanks and Barbie camouflage pants. Tommy wears his original outfit. Jacob has borrowed his long shorts from Oliver from Hannah Montana.

Does anyone like the look? I consider it a "youth" look. I would feel awkward wearing it myself although I have and would wear military-themed jackets, blouses, and dresses. Camouflage feels more informal to me.

* Our Kellys are Aoshima's Lady's Mission Kelly Jackson (left) and Mattel's Teen Kelly, a Starr friend (right). And no, the room was NOT especially cold. LM Kelly is just "built" that way ;-D

D7ana,

"Fashionflage" as I like to call it is quite popular in both forms of actual military issue items or the more fashionable recolored stylings often seen.

As someone who has worn camouflage in both the facets of duty and casual (though primarily as a utilitarian item) I don't mind the look of people wearing camo itself... I get annoyed when I see people wearing such items that have actual military unit insignias on them, quite often improperly displayed... and certainly not earned.

But as for your themed ensemble pic, they all look nice and work well :)

I like the look, but never thought that I could personally pull it off. You have my favorite litte boy in the shot. I have been dying to get him into my stories and haven't found the right opportunity. By the way, tell LM Kelly that she's too big to be walking around braless or pasti-less.

Hi, Vanessa! Thanks for the second humorous comment. I laughed out loud at this sally, too. I don't know whether LM Kelly is brassy or unconscious of the effect. I did have my doubts about her wearing that thin cotton top, but she insisted it was a nice balance to the other Kelly's top.

Me, I don't know whether she was trying to give Jacob "ideas" ... I do notice that he's got his hand fully on her back, lol.

Oh that Tommy is one of my favorites. He looks so cute and tanned and impishly fun. And I didn't have to change him into anything.

Thanks, SilentG! For the photo compliment and the term.

Even if I thought I could wear the look, I would hesitate or balk at wearing any insignias for the reason you state. It would seem an impertience.

I like the camouflage look on other people - I have never worn it myself. I think it is an ironic look - you have to be in certain environments where it works to camouflage you from predators/enemies and in an urban context, camouflage often makes you stand out more...

I agree, Kim. The camouflage or "fashionflage" among civilians does stand out, pop. And I think that that difference is what the wearer seeks. The anti-blend look.

In most cases the "fashionflage" patterns are exactly that... to stand out and be gaudy...

Thanks for those examples, SG!

I was thinking that the orange-and-brown pair might be alright ... in green, lol.

I suppose I am more conventional than I think ;-P

I would love the pink and purple pair in Barbie size!

Interestingly enough, the orange / brown / gold / black version would work quite well in the Autumn with all those colors present on the trees and littering the forest floor :)

Vanessa, there are some Barbies here who agree with you on that choice ;-D.

Silent G, I can see me crawling through a pile of raked leaves - me wearing orange-brown camouflage, lol. Hey, that might be fun. (Are they padded? For comfort ;-D ... )

But no, I agree that the orange-multi pair could work as well as the green for camouflage purposes in Pennsylvania during the fall.
