Versatile Blogger Award, Part 1 - Thanks, jSarie!

jSarie of Revenge of the Toy Box bestowed a Versatile Blogger award on PhillyCollector. Thanks, jSarie! I appreciate the honour. I will list my 15 nominees this weekend, but I will start with sharing about me. Because that's the easier of the actions - wink, wink. So many good blogs out, and how to choose only 15!

Here are 7 things I would like you to know about me:

1.) Some of my dolls and action figures have back stories; others do not yet.

2.) I live with an intact tom cat named Louie who has black hair and green eyes.

3.) I will customize a doll or action figure if I think the head is too big sooner than to have better articulation.

4.) I have dolls and action figures in different races because I am curious about the world and its many peoples, but I love the comforts of home.

5.) Eating just the right brands of dark chocolate will make me feel calmer and happier.

6.) I wish my collection were better organized; I am working on making that a reality.

7.) I love using personal computers and accessing the Internet - for work or for play.

@Georgia Girl - thanks for reading ;-)

Oh, gosh, that #6 should have been #1, hey?

@Pattidolls - amazing, huh? Now I gotta give something back this weekend. Thanks for acknowledging ;-)

Nice learning more about you!

How come some dolls have stories and others don't? Do some "speak to you" and you get an impression of them while others you don't connect with?

Congratulations, D7ana! I enjoyed learning a little more about you.

I love dark chocolate and share your desire for #6.

Congrats on your nomination! Moreville was nominated yesterday. I too love dark chocolate. LOL :-)

@Muff - thanks - kind of you to say so ;-)

The dolls with stories thing goes back to when I was a kid. Not only did my dolls have set characters, they also had distinct voices. (Regular carny act I had going, lol.) I can mimic some people's voices. (Almost got myself in trouble at work once when I responded to a co-worker in her voice. She was NOT amused. I've got much better control over that playback leaking.) As I grew older, my collection grew, and it became harder to provide distinct enough voices for each character. So that's partly why I don't have as many stories attached as I used to.

Then again, sometimes the story doesn't present itself until I have had the doll for some time. Li Shang was initially just an elusive-to-find Asian fashion doll. When I got my Wolf Cut 2 Momoko 02Smpk, I realized that Li Shang would make a perfect boyfriend for her. And part of his story was that he was a college student and that he used to date Jem Hologram member Aja (the original Hasbro one). So potentially, any of my dolls and action figures can have stories. Some stories grow, others peter out. So, yes, they do speak to me, but I don't always hear them at full volume at first.

Then there are dolls that I bought and wanted to like but lost rapport with. Shrug.

@DBG - thanks! Glad to hear that ;-)

I can take Lindt 70% dark and Ghiradelli 72% dark and Dove 63% dark. The higher cacao ratios are too smoky for me ;-)

I think #6 is a universal wish among us ethusiasts and collectors.

@Cindi - thanks! I congratulate you in return on Moreville's nomination.

What's your favorite dark chocolate?

Very creative of you! My dolls generally became characters from Little House on the Prairie, or Little Women, or Betsy/Tacy. Blond Skipper especially made a very good Amy March, even more so because we had a hairpiece of blond curls that she could wear.

Hello from Spain: congratulations on your award. I liked to know more thanks to your answers. Keep in touch

Thanks for the compliment, Barb the Evil Genius! I used to watch Little House on the Prairie. I LOVE and have read Little Women many times and have seen several of the screen adaptations. (BTW, did you read the sequels, Little Men and Jo's Boys? And the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery? Ah, good reads, all.

I do not recognize Betsy/Tacy though ;-)

I think I remember that pale blonde, twin curl thingie. I think Mattel sold them in hair paks and with Growin' Hair Francie and maybe even the Deluxe Quick Curl dolls? Not sure about that last one though ...

@Marta - hello and thanks for the positive wish. It is always fun to learn more about our fellow collectors. Will stay in touch ;-)

Hmm. My favorite? I would say Ghiradelli. When I lived in San Francisco many moons ago, I used to love going to Ghiradelli Square. The smell of the chocolate coming from that place was AWESOME! LOL :-)

D7ana said...

I like Ghiradelli, too, although Lindt 70% is my current favorite.

I can almost smell that chocolate smell - no, late April Fool's prank - alas, I cannot smell it. Wish I could now ... hmmmm.

Glad you had the experience of that intoxicating smell. Must have been grand. Sigh ;-)

I kept meaning to reply to this!! I read the Little House on the Prairie books many times, plus all the Little Women books, and all the Anne of Green Gables books. I also loved the Narnia books. I wanted to live in Narnia.

Betsy/Tacy was a whole series of books about a girl named Betsy, growing up at the turn of the last century. She makes friends with Tacy in the first book at the age of five, and the books continue all the way to marriages.

Hi Barb the Evil Genius - lol, I know that feeling - meaning to send a response. I read and loved the Narnia books, too. Part of the reason I was once interested in life in Canada was from having read L.M. Montgomery's Anne and Emily books. Good reads.

I didn't read the Little House on the Prairie books though. The show was fun, but I wasn't so keen on it to follow up. And I didn't encounter the books when I was younger. I might check out the Betsy books.

Oops ... forgetting the doll topic. Still I enjoyed these comments. Love book talk, too ;-D
