Mattel's That's So Raven Doll Body and Other Doll Bodies

Since I've been talking about Mattel's That's So Raven doll body lately I thought I'd share these photos to show her body next to some other doll bodies. I wish now that I had used a background with more contrast. Gray or dark blue perhaps.

Mattel Happy Family Grandmother has the widest waist. That's So Raven has the roundest legs. Shani friend Nichelle has the shortest torso and the longest legs.

I am glad that Mattel made the Raven doll body heavier.

I like the fuller body on the Raven doll. Thanks for these pictures. They were helpful in deciding to definitely add her to my wish list.

Nice post! I always love body comparison post. They are very informative.

Interesting! I hadn't realized the body was so distinct.

Hi Jewell, Georgia Girl, and jSarie!

@Jewell - I'm glad to have helped you decide. She is distinct enough, physically, to warrant adding to your collection.

@Georgia Girl - thanks for the compliment; I, too, love body comparison posts.

@jSarie - oh, yes, it is. I was surprised to see how distinct the body was once she was deboxed, undressed, and set next to other dolls.

I'm looking forward to redressing her ;-D

Thanks for the body comparison. It is so hard to see what you are getting when they are boxed in the store.

Again, I never knew there were so many different types of Black Barbies. Who knew there was a That's So Raven doll!!! Also interesting is the variations in doll bodies. Kinda shoots holes in the stereotypical argument about Barbie's extreme proportions! Very interesting post!!!

I must be blind because other than her thighs touching her shape/thickness looks the same as a typical Barbie to me. *squints more*

Hi The grandmommy, April_n_paris, and Muff!

@The grandmommy - you're welcome. Glad to share. No you can't tell from the box ;-)

@April_n_paris - there are LOTS of Black Barbies. Mattel has also produced a variety of body type - but I'm saving that chatter for another post ;-) Glad you liked this one!

@Muff - oh the fault is in my using a wood background similar to the dolls' complexions ;-P

I'll photograph her dressed and standing to better show her figure ;-)

Love the haircut on your Kenya doll. I've loved having Raven as part of my collection. Not only does she have a bigger body, but she is a bit shorter, which makes for nice variety.

Hi Vanessa! That haircut "saved" Kenya. Otherwise, she'd have been a "body donor." Your Melanie doll and some shortened hair dolls by Dcr Dcr on FB inspired me to cut Kenya's hair.

Snap! That's it. I should measure Raven and share her stats with those of other Mattel dolls. Thanks for reminding me that Raven is shorter.

Got to find my measuring tape.

Thanks for the body comparison. Raven was also created as a Cheetah doll by a different company and her body is fuller than the Mattel one.

I like the ideal of Mattel using different body shapes on the dolls. To me it adds to there personality although it could be challenging to dress. I think Raven wears the SG fashions best too. My HF Grandmother is the luckiest of all because she allows me to sew more, well when I get the chance anyway.

Hi Male Doll World and Brini!

@Male Doll World - you're welcome. I have the Cheetah Girls dolls, including Raven as Galleria by Play Along Ltd. Yes, Galleria has a broader torso than Mattel Raven ;-)

@Brini - I like different bodies, too. I agree that body shape adds to the doll's character. That's why my Mixis dolls remain on their original bodies. (Although I do think Roxanne did an excellent job re-bodying her Opal with a matching sized action figure body.

I'm sure SG fashions is something I should know, but I'm drawing a blank now ;-P

Mrs. Dotson and her friend (the other HF Grandmother) have the savviest wardrobes. My HF Grandmother gave a sigh. She wishes I'd sew nice fashions for her. Perhaps I will once I get organized ;-)
