Juliana Heng Article About Assessing Your Collection

I came across this interesting article, Too Many Toys by Juliana Heng.

Ms. Heng's observations and comments could help anyone weighing the quantity of their collection. I am guilty of allowing my DAFs to invade other rooms - beyond my DAFZ (Doll and Action Figure Room) and my bedroom. There are some other points in that article that I recognize.

I don't know if I should be happy because I don't have too many toys or be sad because I don't have many toys (and still have a mess). LOL.

I guess it's a good thing having a destructive pet - no toys dare venture outside their little room... or bunny goes *NOM NOM NOM*

Niel, you can be happy that you don't [yet] have too many toys AND happy that you have achieved the rich and creative array aka "figure sprawl" with the possessions you have now. How's that for a perspective? LOL

Therese, uncanny that you should mention pets at this time. I was thinking of doing a post on my cat and my collection ;-D

Perhaps a pet with a penchant for chewing could stem the tide of dolls and action figures venturing beyond their allotted space. But Louie, resident cat, is a jealous tom - he complains when the turtles are fed - so a new pet deterrent is not an option. Sigh. I'll have to find an alternate solution.

Alas, I don't have too many toys! My husband, however, would argue quite passionately against this conclusion.

Maybe I am just lucky enough to have too much shelf space?

I have to work harder at filling it up...

M.J., that's neat that you have lots of shelf space. As they say though, Nature abhors a void LOL.
Now, dolls will fly to you to fill those shelves.

It's the Call of the Empty Shelves ;-D

It's nice to know that I don't have too many toys yet. Let the shopping spree commence! (I wish.) My cat also makes sure that my collection does not venture outside of the play room or my bedroom. This year, he decided that it is fun to chew on action figure feet.

Not too many dolls sounds good, Roxanne ;-)

I wish, too, for a shopping spree. Many dolls and action figures that I want to add are appearing. Just need to shift some out to make room for the new ones.

My cat hasn't nibbled on anything yet, but unfortunately, he has started to spray. Eeekk! Intact toms avenge the tedium/cruelty of apartment living by scent torture. Alas, alas. He might just "spray" his way to a snip and strip operation.

Holy crap, D7ana! I can come down to your house and help you clean up some of those dolls post-haste! :D

Hi, E.A.! I need to go through and pull out the duplicates. Most of the DAFs are staying here, but to make room for new faces, I'll be selling some and donating others. I'm also separating accessories I don't particularly want.

Problem? I have to remove the exiting figures from my Excel spreadsheet. Sigh. So I have to look up the number or the outfit and doll description of the outgoing figure then note whether the figure sold or was given away.

Let me know if you have any particular wants in mind.
