Doublemint AA Cheerleaders at Toys R Us

I really should NOT have been there in the first place. Toys R Us. It's just that I had not visited the South Philly Toys R Us for so long. I thought: I don't have to buy anything. Just look and see. See if they have something that the Cottman and the Aramingo stores do not have. Just looking was my downfall.

Because I was there and I did see this set and I almost broke down and bought them. Almost. I told myself that I had at least FOUR Desiree-faced dolls already. Told myself that I was getting tired of the Desiree face already. Told myself that the doll bodies were probably "hobbit Barbie bodies." Told myself that complexion variation was NOT reason enough to get another set of dolls with the same face. Repeated that reminder at least three times. Finally tore myself away after I found a long-desired item that caused me to set this Toys R Us special down.

The item so fascinating to me is the Toys R Us Exclusive African American or black cheerleader pair of Grace AND Nikki! Yes, two black female dolls in the Barbie pantheon, in the same box. Like Cara and Christie. Or Christie and Nikki. Wow. And although they both have the same face sculpt (grrrrr), they have different complexions! So I was very hard-pressed to leave these dolls behind me.

Now for those of you who do not have a Toys R Us selling this doll set, I suggest you walk your fingertips to this web page if you would like to add this Grace and Nikki set to your doll collection. Me, I am wondering when I will be back at the South Philly Toys R Us. Because I think I might get that set after all ....

By the way ... Toys R Us has FREE shipping for these dolls. Enabler? Moi?!

Is this a re-issue of these dolls? I remeber see them the first time and one doll in the pack had articulated arms and the other didn't. It looks like they both don't now? I thought about buying them because of the complexion thing too but didn't.

First of all, you know when we say "we will just look", this easily equates to, "unless I see something that I just gotta have". We all should know better, but still we lie to ourselves constantly. Once again, this set reminds me that I am PO'd with Mattel. They are cheerleaders! For goodness sakes, give them some articulation! I am no longer buying dolls that clearly Mattel dropped the ball on.

Hi Ms. Leo and Vanessa. I don't recall any details about these dolls from an earlier edition. They might have been issued before and I missed them.

Hi Vanessa. LOL, yes, "just look" nearly always has the rider "unless I see something I really want" attached to it. Sigh. The road of good intentions leads ... well, no need to go there, lol.

Yes, articulated dolls would make sense for gymnastic dolls - Mattel had used poser dolls for their basketball dolls. I don't know why they aren't doing so now :-{

OK don't throw anything but when TRU had that fabulous sale I bought this set. They were $13 and I bought some other stuff that was so cheap. I did a body swap for the darker doll. The other girl is still in a box probably waiting to be sold at some point..LOL.

I have about 8 or so dolls with this face and love them all. My fave started with Ms 2002. Before the heads got a bit bigger.

Congratulations on getting an even better buy, Dollz4Moi! Will you be doing a photo post of those dolls?

Thanks for that link, Dollz4Moi! I missed that link (curses slow system at home). I LOVE Desiree, the Benetton doll, Grandma Hadley, Taylor, and the cheerleader girls. I have all but the cheerleaders. Will have to add them, too. Someday ;-D
