Choice Awards Tawny of the Flavas - The Accessories

My post about Choice Awards Tawny would be incomplete without a look at her clothes and accessories. And Tawny came with nice quality accessories. Let's see them.

Open her box and you would see Tawny, her microphone, her jewelry, her second outfit, her wig, and her wig box.

Before we look at her outfits and accessories, Tawny needs to take off her heavy coat. Shake herself out a little. Whew! That's a little better.

Okay, let's start with her jewelry which consists of 2 silver necklaces, a silver bracelet, and two pairs of earrings. Nice, hmmm?

She also has a pair of top-stitched loafers that she wears and a pair of silver sneaker-boots that she has to round out her second outfit. The loafers tickle me. I usually think of loafers as "nerdy shoes." I have worn them, but I would not consider them footwear for a hip hop or street artist. Then again, I have about as much knowledge of "cool circa 2003" fashions as Mattel did. Ha.

Her first outfit includes a plushy tan mid-calf coat with a "fur" collar, a white knit halter top, her Choice Awards badge, bronze knickers and the loafers; the second outfit consists of a silver short-sleeved top, denim mini-skirt, and the silver boots. Her Choice Awards plaque is also in this photo. You can see her clothes on the Barbie mannequins below:

Then there are her hair accessories. The auburn wig , her wig case, the clear wig holder, her golden barrettes, and her silver brush. Oh and her red-black graphic sunglasses.

Let's close that box and put it aside.

Can we see you wearing the sunglasses, Tawny? Thanks!

Finally, here is a look at her Choice Awards Night backdrop.

But where is Tawny now? I suppose she got tired and left to take a nap. Even the brightest of starlets get tired at night. So do I. Good night everyone. Hope you've all had a safe Black Friday.

I really liked the Flavas line. I have some favorite customs I made using the heads from the line... I liked the styling of them a lot. Seeing your recent Flavas posts reminds me I still have one of them to revisit with an eye repaint and finish up the character.

Hi Dana, I think she is cute, I like her face, but she has a big head which is not to my tastes. My own clothing tastes are also way more conservative (being the old geezer that I am), but I suspect they were pretty good for the target audience. I do like the coat.

I thought your review was excellent; I like your writing style and I like your personification of Tawny--I've actually done that once or twice in my doll features on my forum and I think it's fun, so I enjoyed that. If dollstering isn't fun, why do it?

She had some awesome accessories. Is that you deboxing a doll? Oh snap! Is that you posting more the one picture? What is going on over there? I thoroughly enjoyed my Tawny Tour.

On a side note, wherever did they get that name? I'm pretty hip, and heavily into hip hop, and I've never heard of a Tawny.

I liked the Flavas line, too, Silent G. I would love to see your customs using the Flavas' heads. Will you be doing a segment on your blog or do you have Flavas photos in an online photo album? I remember your re-painted Jessica Alba looked exactly like the actress.

Hi, Mark! Great to see you here as well as at MEF: Fashion Dolls and Action Figures. My only problem with the Flavas was the huge heads on them. Sigh. Most of the ones that I have, I rebodied onto fuller shouldered Barbie bodies like the My Scene dolls.

Thanks for the feedback on my review and the compliment to my writing style (now that brings out a smile close to a grin). Some dolls "speak" to me - like they are characters and I am "reading" their response or story in handling them. During the Tawny post upload and photo placement checks, it seemed to me that Tawny got tired so I imagined her slipping away as I completed the post ;-) Neat way to end the review.

Yep, Vanessa, that is me deboxing a doll and taking multiple photos. LOL. I had to do something to make amends to myself for not having a new Stardoll to debox. Glad you enjoyed the Tawny Tour.

IMHO - cough, yes, I can be humble ;-) - Mattel could have been alluding to Pam Grier's character in a blaxploitation film, "Foxy Brown".

Or they might have heard of rapper "Foxy Brown" although I doubt that Mattel would have been aware of that rapper. Had they intended the doll to match rapper "Foxy Brown," there would have been no need to lighten the standard Kiyoni complexion.

Or for a third theory, the Mattel designer creating the "Tawny" doll character could have been thinking of a light/medium brown-skinned person who struck the Mattel designer as being "Tawny" colored. Shrug.

OR for a fourth theory, the Mattel designer could have done word associations: foxy, vixen, cat, plush, tawny?

Hello from Spain: I see that Tawny comes with much clothing and accessories. Jewelry and I love the wig. Very good buy. We remain in contact blog blog

Hi Marta! Yes, Tawny came with nice clothes and nice accessories. Her wig is more of a "piece" because there is not much hair in it. Tre's wig had more hair and fit his head.

Wow... You mentioning a repainted Jessica Alba made me have to think back a ways... I am guessing the one you are thinking of (if you are thinking of one of mine) would have to have been a DML Amy that I painted somewhere around 2003 or so... I'll have to dig up some pics of her if I still have some.

As for my Flavas customs, I have two favorites.

The Kiyoni Brown with the straight hair and blond highlights would get a repaint and become my B Movie / Pulp Heroine: Saylani: Jungle Girl...

And my other favorite was the Flavas P Bo with the straight blonde hair. She always just had such a cute and innocent look to her.

She started out on a CG 2.0 body, but being as I had two of her, the one later got put on a Triad Otaku and basically became a statue as my U.S. Army Pinup Girl:

But now, I have her on a smaller bust TTL body and am working on the second one in a Kim Possible sort of fashioned character:

This one is still in the works though. I am going to repaint her eyes in my new styling this time around.

I think the Jessica Alba was one you did for Matt, possibly? Or you had liked the one you did for him so much, you made another for yourself? You had improved the facial screening. The DML or other company figure had provided a good base, but your repaint perfected the deal.

Whoa, now I see that your Saylani is on a Perfect Body body. (My Brenda is edging away from the computer - as if I would replace her head, lol.) Shame the Perfect Body is not as common as it used to be. Sigh. Will have to find replacements.

And I like that blond P Bo. Might add her to my to get list - after I get my collection down to a smaller size. Good luck completing her to your taste ;-)
