Thanks for the Warning, Paul Nomad: La Dee Da Dolls in the Vinyl

Thank you, Professional Toy Fiend Paul Nomad! Folks, we got photos of the real La Dee Da Dolls.

OMG! How could they happen?

Spin Master created one of the best articulated fashion dolls ever. Deep breathing then pause. Now they bring forth this ... GARUMPH. That was a pseudo-sound. The pseudo-sound of me swallowing a mountain of vicious criticism and acidic fury. Okay, Spin Master gave us the Liv bodies for a few years now. Do they deserve to be scourged for producing a new series that does not suit my taste? Covers mouth with a trembling right hand while the left hand fumbles for the name-brand aspirin. Is now the time to turn on the company polite enough to respond on the same day I sent them a query? No. Pause to reflect. (Don't really need the aspirin. Don't really need to force back heated words.) No.

Less subjective assessment called for. Okay the new - grimace - "La Dee Da" series reminds me of the old Strawberry Shortcake series. Pause to allow shudder-of-revulsion. Very bright colors. Huge heads. Tiny bodies. Yes, tiny bodies. So we are not likely to re-use them to re-body Barbies and other fashion dolls.

Wonder ... could that be it? Could word have leaked back to Spin Master that there was a small army of people using their doll bodies for Barbie heads? Could this new series be an act of revenge? Useless speculation. The new dolls must have passed some marketing test. Somewhere there are children who found those gooey, corn syrup drenched creatures exciting. And that is really scary.

Oh and stop by Paul Nomad's blog. Good reads there.

Apparently Spin Master has decided to play in a different market. These dolls sort of remind me of the Lati, Pukifee, and other BJD type dolls. That market is really popular and very successful. Of course those lines have great articulation, too. It would be interesting to hear why they decided to move in this direction.

P.S. Your post was too funny!

Oh Spin Master. I liked them better when they were called Yummi Land and MGA made them. Or Mini B when Mattel did. Or one of fifty thousand other doll lines that looked exactly like it.
I'm not so much disgusted by the dolls themselves but more by how old and done to death this "giant head + cutesy rainbow vomit outft" idea is. Lisa Frank was doing it back in the 80s, for gods sake. So yeah discontinuing the Liv line and giving us in its place this dreck does sting a little.

Crap on a cracker. Why would they articulate the knees but not the arms? I mean, seriously?! I get that they are moving to a Monster type body and many people will appreciate dolls that size because the clothes will fit their Monsters. But geeze, the candy coatedness of it all is very unappealing to my butchly appetite.

Ugh.

Thanks, Vanessa. You know how I cannot do anything without drama ;-D

DBG - horrid would work for me, too, to sum up the new creatures.

Alrunia, "cutesy rainbow vomit" - apt, too. Lisa Frank - more shudders shake my frame - was revoltingly sweet. The only thing worse than LF was ... and I *whisper* this in case anyone truly cruel and evil brings up "Care Bears." Sorry, I know it was vile of me to bring them up ... Alrunia? Hey, are you okay? Oh, good, you have a bucket there. Excuse me folks ... ahh teh teh ... okay, all clear now.

Muff, I would sooner see the crap on a cracker. Well, no, not literally, lol. But almost ... and no, I do not understand why the knees would be articulated and not the arms. Possibly so that the poor creatures can kneel over a bucket or a toilet ... "Mumsy, we make ourselwes sick."

Gads. Eeee. Pfffft. Blinded by glitter. One of my teeth is hurting...

I guess if I don't think of them as, "the dolls who chased Liv away" I might feel better, but for now, it's hard not to see them as the enemy...disguised as candy.

Thanks for the heads-up, Dana!

Hi Emily! Yes, they are the bad side of candy - the tooth-rotting and system upsetting side.

I hope they only chase the Liv dolls for a year and that the Liv return the next year. Viva les Liv!

I can see in a year these dolls are going. I think I going to get some livs first. I have no dolls from spinmaster

Hi Anonymous! Yes, I think it would be good to get your Liv dolls now while you can.
