Organizing a Doll Collection, Part 2: List of Assignments

Okay, I confess. I slipped today. For about 20 minutes, I sorted dolls, action figures, fashions, and accessories. Me, smiling. Good? No, no, no. I'm supposed to be writing to do lists first. Sigh.

Me: Look, I'll just clear off the printer, okay?

My conscience: Just the printer.

What happens next? My conscience drifts into a brief nap. It's tiresome being the Enforcer. So much more fun seeing the Stay and the Go piles growing ...

My conscience: Enough! Time to write those to do lists. Let's get the task tally started!

Psst ... before I share the lists, wanna see what I did? Here goes.

That is a lot of lists. ;)
I'd much rather look at dolls, too.
And I love your witch doll on the side view of get rid of dolls, it looks like she is levitating.

Ok I looked at your list then went to play. Lists do that to me. LOL

Oh, how many, what would I want mine :)

Oh I admire your desire for organization. I didn't even think of making a list until I started counting the dolls just out in the doll room, and the tubs. I stopped at 200 as I knew I had more than that...lol

Yay to the pile! Decluttering sessions of 15-20 minutes are among the classic approaches to this sort of task, so no harm, no foul on slippage.

Double yay to lists! It will be pleasing to see you get tasks checked off. This month, I underwent spontaneous listification, so I'm gung-ho for lists. My thing is to keep any given day's list finite, so that no matter how big the overall task is, there is a point at which I am DONE for the day and can do whatever I like without guilt. If I want to clean another thing or wrap up an almost-done project, I can... but I don't have to.

Any progress, with or without lists, is a GREAT thing. Don't feel bad about it. Of course this. You know I was looking hard at the dolls in your 'to go' pile. I'm excited to see you making so much progress. Yay, you!

That "to go" pile is deep, so that looks like solid progress from here!

You are doing a great job, making lists is a big help. With one step at a time, it will look better and better! It's a lot to go through, but I admire you for your self-discipline.

I think lists may be last on my list LOL. I lost my inventory some years ago. I'm sorting first then going back to my inventory list. I have to admit looking at your to go pile and feeling good. It's a process and at least you're doing it.

Thanks for your encouragement and comments!

Wow D7ana, you are making progress! These posts are so inspiring me to do something. I am thinking of taking a container at a time and putting the items on ebay. I just need to find the time.

You really are getting there D7ana, congratulations on your progress so far. And I really like Smaller Places idea of having a definite finishing point for each day. It always feels good to reach that point and know that anything else you do is a bonus.

Isn't it amazing how even when you have a dedicated playroom the DAFs start to take over every other room in the house as well? Good you have made an action plan to corral them all. Keeping chipping away and keep us posted. We need the inspiration.

Well, there’s no doubt that lists help you be more organized and productive, so this is a good post. But I’m distracted by how many rooms your DAFs have staked which makes me think how much you must love them (space is valuable). Wishing you heaps of luck trying to rid of any loved little DAFs.

Way to go D7ana! You're making great progress. My only advice is try not to get too hung up on making lists. From my experience too much listing can be discouraging when I read how much I need to do. Do a little each day then the tasks aren't so overwhelming. :-)

Like Roville said, you certainly have a lot of rooms for those dolls! That might be a contributor to your problem. :)

I admire your desire to stick to a plan, but since I struggle with energy issues so often, I admit that I would have just dug in and sorted as well, if I would have had the internal push to do so.

Hi Georgia Girl, Carrickters, Limbe Dolls, Roville, Cindi Mortensen, and Barb the Evil Genius!

Thanks for your continued support. I do want to be comfy with my collection. I miss those days. 'Course I had fewer dolls then. Sigh.

Glad to have the lists done. Whew ;-)
