Niel submitted a post about finding an Asian doll with "a generous smile". So naturally, I had to dig through my collection - wink, wink any excuse would do, lol - to see if I had any grinning or close-to-tooth-baring Asian dolls or action figures. I found a few and wanted to share them with Niel and my visitors.
Please see from left to right on the back row: Aja of the Holograms (Jem band member), Kmart's Just Girlz Jade Princess, Banee of the Starlight Girls (Jem fan), Dorinda - oops, what is SHE doing there!?
Ack! Dorinda is NOT Asian or Asian American.
Front row also from left to right: Jackie Chan, Claudia from the Babysitters' Club, Happy Family child, and Smartees' Amanda.
Just have to find out the wise guy or gal who inserted Dorinda ... But there we go. Broad Asian smiles.
Brotherly love in playscale: finding diversity in fashion dolls and action figures from the 1960s to now: Barbie, Fashion Royalty, Momoko, Susie, GI Joe, Power Team, Mixis.

Missed Cheetah Girls? Get Concert Dolls for $5.00 Each

Think you missed your last chance to own one of the PlayAlong In Concert Cheetah Girls? Philadelphia doll collectors, have no regrets on this point. You can find each of the In Concert Cheetah Girls by for $5.00 EACH doll. Head to the Best Deals Discount store at 20th and Oregon Avenue (South Philly) for these dolls. Note: I think that there is another Best Deals store at 40th and Market Streets (University City-West Philly), but I do not know that they have the same stock. Wouldn't hurt to check there if you shop nearby.
Now those who are crying in their teacups because you paid over $20 each doll, there, there. How could you know that the doll or dolls that you wanted would be reduced to that bargain price? I didn't know. I paid the $15-20 for the basic dolls when they came out. Sniff ... I need to salty-up some tea.

Deboxed Cheetah Girls in Webshots Folder

Finally deboxed the PlayAlong Cheetah Girls. I have a few photos of them in a new Webshots folder.
I like their faces, but their hair is a little sparse in the back. They have different types of boots - but each has at least one pair of T-strap high heels that fit them well. The clothes are less than average quality: mostly velcro closures AND cheap, polyester fabric. Oh and never have I seen so much leopard wear in ONE doll collection.

Cheetah Girls Dolls
When I first saw the PlayAlong Cheetah Girls dolls, they were just new dolls. I recognized Raven-Symoné, but none of the other Cheetah Girls were familiar to me. I was not familiar with the teen book series or the Disney movies based on the group. (Like the situation of the High School Musical dolls ... I just saw dolls.) For those interested in the background(s) of the characters, there is a Wikipedia article elaborating on the novel series and offering links to related sites.
I like the dolls, but I'm not fond of their clothes. Below, the Cheetah Girls dolls:
